For the three update videos Alan sends to Renee in the film, director Eric Stanze had Alan actor Jason Christ go off and create these videos in character on his own. Stanze provided three to five bullet points per video - story info needed in each update - and beyond that, Jason Christ was free to do what he wanted with these videos. (They were shot and edited without Stanze's involvement.) Producer and lead actress Jackie Kelly was also not involved in the production of the Alan update videos. In fact, in the film, when her character is seeing these videos for the first time, it is actually camera rolling on Jackie's first time watching these videos in real life.
