I thought this would be cheesy but...having Michael C Hall's voice as the narrator is really a game changer. As a die-hard Dexter fan the first episode is very promising.
Deb is a little hard to adapt too but its the first episode I will withhold judgement. Theres' just something not meshing. Its like the on pre-req the have for Deb is that she curses and while she was a curser she was much more than that.
Christian Slater as Harry. What a fantastic choice. He brought the young Harry to life. What a great actor
Michelle G: Love her character, she's added a new dimension. This entire cast is stellar.

Off to a great start! Some very good decisions made from the producers. Original music, throwback original opening sequence and almost perfect casting gets this series off to a great start.
I enjoyed the flashbacks as it lets you know we are in this time period for Dexter. We may jump back to show you some backstory, but we are staying here for awhile so you can see how he learned his craft.
As others have said, the pacing is just a tad fast but they really nailed a lot of the things they needed to. I can't wait to see each character at Miami Metro begin their intersections with Dexter. Better than expected!!

You need to see it on your own, although good as a first episode if you are a fan of the series you will like it but its pace is a little fast, if you are not a fan the episode is goof too, Although I hope it improves with each episode, like the New Blood series, although I think it has even better potential, along with the next Dexter Resurrection series, I hope they finally give a good closure to the character Dexter.
And speaking more about the episode, the characters and the actors' interpretation are very good, just like the original series, I would say that it is the best of this first episode, the episode is a solid 7.5-8/10.

The colorful Miami, the og music themes, the characters we loved portrayed by great actors, the continuous rotation from comedy to horror, the realistic dialogues etc.
This is just the beginning of course, we don't know exactly what story they want to tell with this prequel, but this first episode gave us every reason to be anticipated to see what they want to do.
Patrick Gibson does an excellent job as Dexter. Same goes for Christian Slater as Harry. I struggled to see Molly Brown as Debra at the beginning, but that's normal since Jennifer has unique characteristics. It's great cast in general.
This episode hits the nostalgia man, everything New Blood couldn't do in 10 episodes.

Goosebumps, soundtrack, voice... it's all there. This premiere episode delivers a potent dose of Dexter nostalgia, capturing the essence of the original series while carving its own unique path. The cast is brilliant, particularly the actors portraying young Deb and Masuka. They absolutely nail the mannerisms and energy of their older counterparts. That Masuka casting is scary good. He seems like the original actor every time he's on screen, it's crazy.
The opening scene immediately grabs you, and the updated intro, while featuring a slightly jarring crunch sound effect, is a welcome return to form. The episode isn't without its flaws. Some of the CGI, particularly the snowy police car, is distractingly bad. The licensed music choices, while period-appropriate, feel a little overdone and at times clash with the show's established tone. The added storyline about Harry's deceased son, while intriguing, feels a bit like an unnecessary retcon.
Despite these minor quibbles, the premiere successfully rekindles the dark magic of Dexter. Patrick Gibson captures Dexter's awkwardness and simmering darkness, while Molly Brown's Deb is a firecracker, perfectly embodying the character's brash energy. The first kill scene, a clever reimagining of Dexter's origin story, is both brutal and darkly comedic.
Overall, "Dexter: Original Sin" is off to a strong start. It's a promising return to the world of Dexter Morgan, and I'm eager to see where the season goes from here. It felt very much like like good old classic Dexter episodes.
