I'm going to review this as season one even if, at the time of writing, no second season has been confirmed. I rewatched "Dexter" over lockdown ahead of the new appendix series that was due. Little did I know at the conclusion of that, that not one, but two spin off series would continue to the Dexter storylines.
Dexter Morgan (Patrick Gibson) is a young man whose murderous urges, stemming from childhood trauma, are being managed by his father Harry (Christian Slater). Dexter's obsessions come in handy though, when he joins his father at Miami P. D as an intern in the forensics team. From that position he can select targets for elimination based on those who deserve it.
I thought it was impressive how well many of these actors do solid impressions of the actors who had the roles in the future, or the past, depending on your point of view. Gibson and Molly Brown, who plays Debra in particularly are spot on. Other than that, the show settles into the same sort of storytelling that that original series did. There's weekly monsters that Dexter must dispose of, but also there's a much larger case, involving kidnapped children that he tries to get to the bottom of. There are origins for a lot of his motus operando, including the blood cells and the disposal techniques. We resee a version of the story of Harry and Dexter's biological mother, which we know has an horrific ending already. We also see a young Brian Moster in and around the cases, ahead of his role in the first season of the show proper.
Essentially it works like one of the better seasons of the original series and, whilst get we've only got limited capacity for stories before the show catches up with itself, I'd certainly like some more of this before we're done.

If you are hesitant in watching because of New Blood, please read!!! I really enjoyed this series and it as a whole I think is much better than Dexter: New Blood, especially given it's ending. I almost didn't want to watch this but really glad I did as I got the same thrill and suspense I got from the original Dexter. For another season, the original Dexter was back, and I hope more people try this out with a fresh mind because I know it was hard finishing New Blood. With this series in mind, I am especially excited to see the Dexter: Resurrection, the writers have clearly seen their mistakes with New Blood and are trying to improve on them.
Surprisingly strong ending to a surprisingly strong show.
Very relieved they stuck the landing. After the hot mess endings of season 8 and New Blood, I was half expecting something equally r*tarded from these writers, like Dexter killing Harry.
The stuff with Brian Moser was particurlarly well cast and executed, although it's hard to see them taking it much further in a second season without major retcons.
Hope they do a similarly good job with Resurrection and finally give Dexter a proper send off. I don't think fans will mind if he dies, we just need it to be well written and true to character. Fingers crossed.

After a classic Dexter episode last week, "Now I separate you!", the finale wraps up the first season of Original Sin in a very satisfying way.
Soencer gets what he deserves and Dexter shows he is not a monster by rescuing Nikki, instead of chasing Spencer further on.
He says it himself, some people deserve to die, because some people deserve to live.
Deborah decides to join Miami Police, too. Of course, she is an officer in the OG show. Seeing the family happy together celebrating was great, only to shiver up the tension again by showing Bryan watching them through the window. There is a lot to come in a second season!
The Dexter franchise is on track. Already later this year we will get Dexter: Resurrection with the infamous Michael C. Hall returning to the screen. Patrick Gibson did a great job but nobody beats the og.

FINALLY after so long a dexter series has an AMAZING ENDING. When I saw the ending for season 8 I was like wow new blood can not be worse than that... and then i watched it loved it just like the original and then they ruined it but now I have such high hopes for this summer dexter is gonna have a great ending its an amazing show and this ep really proved why it should happen. We needed this series to fix this amazing show that i love. Now we wait for the new series to start. Heres my theory since i still need 100 characters.. Batista and dexter meet again he goes to trail im guessing? Dexter confesses and either gets the chair or life sentence still a good ending let's see how they execute it.

- TriviaThe song "Wave of Mutilation" was on the soundtrack for Christian Slater 1990 movie Pump Up the Volume.
- ErroresHarry pours himself a Balvenie doublewood, unfortunately Balvenie doublewood didn't exist yet in 1991, the first bottles were released in 1993 with a different bottle design all together, what you could get in 1991 would have been a founders reserve in a green cognac bottle.
