Maaman

This is a family movie and typical tamil drama ( that is it is lot of emotions, loud bgms, pretty illogical behaviour and a whole heap of cliches)

So I had clear perception going into the movie and the movie had all - a bit too cliched and climax and pre- climax was ridiculously over dramatic ( worse than TV soaps )

The highlight of the movie has been the performances - Soori, Aishwarya Lakshmi and Swasika and the surprise package of Baba Bhasker all were really good - especially Soori and Baba Bhasker (though his screen time low )

Had the pre-climax be better and ending a bit more paced ( it happens too suddenly - the whole section of pre-climax around their grandparents could have been trimmed or excluded and given more depth and detail to the resolution) - the movie would have been above average.

Maman and Machan's family life is shown through a lens of unrealistic parenting and outdated ideas about raising children. Maman often encourages Machan's mischievous behaviour, treating it as harmless fun, when it comes across as irritating and irresponsible. The film builds an idealised image of their home life, far removed from the real struggles parents face today. Instead of teaching Machan valuable lessons, Maman and the family behave more like his playmates, sending the wrong message to younger viewers. While some may find it charming, the lack of depth and realism makes it hard to connect.

Maaman is not just a film - it's an emotion many of us grew up with but never put into words. The story of an uncle's silent sacrifices and unconditional love for his nephew is something deeply rooted in Indian families. It doesn't try to be flashy; it wins you over with truth, warmth, and heart.

Soori gives a performance full of soul - no overacting, just real pain and pure love. The little boy, Laddu, lights up the screen with innocence, and Aishwarya Lekshmi brings balance with strength and softness. The background score is subtle yet stirs something deep inside.

This is a film that speaks to your heart without shouting. It makes you smile through your tears and reminds you of the quiet heroes in our lives - those who love us more than themselves.

If you've ever been loved silently, or loved someone without expecting anything back - Maaman will stay with you long after the credits roll.

This movie is very unrealistic, boring & extremely cringe... Everything abt the movie is very clumsy , dissociated & forced , added useless songs in between just to kill the 2 hour time & poor screenplay from beginning till end...This is more or less a poorly executed over extended short film..

This is a total disaster & waste of time.

The first half of Maaman carries its share of narrative lags, yet somehow never loses its rhythm. Despite occasional dips in momentum, it sustains viewer engagement with just enough charm and curiosity. It's the second half, however, that truly shifts the emotional gears - a poignant, stirring ride that strikes a chord with even the most stoic hearts. This emotional surge elevates the film from a passable experience to a genuinely touching, feel-good watch, worthy of a one-time sit-down.

Through heartfelt performances and nuanced storytelling in its latter half, Maaman finds its emotional depth and delivers a message that lingers. Not flawless, but definitely memorable.
