This was a bizarre one because I knew from the moment I began this episode, it would cause speculation and severe doubt. Paranormal investigations will always cause doubt because of how many hoaxes, scams, and con artists are out there taking advantage of people to believe in lies. The moment Don started talking about hearing voices and energies, my first thought was schizophrenia. Then he brought up this 'Becky' a dead school teacher who was more than a spirit but a guide and had latched herself to him? What?! Ghosts don't latch onto people and know the unknown, demons do. Entities do. Not ghosts. It's hard to know if every single person they interviewed and most likely paid is in it for the money and fame and glory but to me, they didn't need the time of day.
This guy is so full of crap! Oh all of these profound voices, even ones claimed to be heard by the sound guy but yet not nothing to replay to the audience? The whole thing about the Jin (eye roll) absolute garbage. Oh, ok you have a lady talking to you that died in a plane crash in 1985, just some random lady?... Ridiculous.
Nothing about what was shown gave any credence to the actual claims that this guy has this "spiritual person" talking to him and guiding him in any way.
Also, notice how there is no mention made of how much he/they charge to use his "gifts" to help others... This episode should not have been added.
Do better guys...

I don't doubt there's supernatural forces out there but this guy, doesn't have a spiritual guide named Becky. He's either schizophrenic or a con artist. The fact that she is a "school teacher" that's passed on is just BS. He clearly wants her to seem innocent so people won't be scared of her. It's so clear to me she's not real lol. Especially at the part he says "she's so sweet" or whatever, i literally rolled my eyes. I don't think this episode should've been featured. It's just more people for him to potentially scam. "I saw it on TV so it's definitely real!" Also, if it was real, he could find a way to prove it to people like the way he "did" with Steve!
By its very nature, Unsolved Mysteries is going to be uneven based on the inherent interest you have in the 'mysteries' described. Some are engaging, others less so. And some are just silly.
This episode is in the last group.
Whatever you think about spirits and life after death, it is hard to imagine anyone in the spirit realm would choose the conduits for their messages back to the living world as the guys featured here. The 'gimmick' is that a spirit/demon has decided to team up with 'Dom,' the world's least likely ghostbuster. The only evidence for this are other unlikely chums of Dom.
Frankly it's embarrassing. Convincing 'sceptics' who actually run websites about paranormal contact is ridiculous. Unsolved Mysteries CAN be very good
This is very bad.

I can understand why many fans had a negative response to this episode, as the subject matter is suited to an old Derek Acorah show more than the revival of Unsolved Mysteries. However, given the shift in tone for the last batch of episodes, I can at least say this installment is entertaining and well-paced, which isn't the case for some of the other episodes of late (like Mothman or the cattle mutilations). I also don't think this episode weakens the show, because it's not really a show with a steady foundation in the first place - they do a few episodes a year then go dark. There's so much true crime content out there on a much faster timetable than these seasons have been made, I'm not surprised they are trying new approaches. If the show does get another season, maybe they can look back and improve the product, but if they don't, this was at least a diverting way to spend 40 minutes.
