Here's a quick review of last night's SNL episode.
Cold Open: Alec Baldwin is a legend, and he did a great job portraying that Fox News interviewer. It felt like they fully understood every good direction a parody of that interview could go, and they nailed it. 9/10
Opening Monologue: To be fair, there was really only one thing they could do. I think the payoff at the end was a little muted, but it went really well otherwise. 7/10
Sketches: There were seven sketches last night. Here is my ranking of them.
The One That's Not Very Good: Tableside. It's just kind of meh. 5/10
6: Shop TV: Halloween Cookies. The only issue with this one is that Shop TV just isn't relevant anymore. 7/10
5: Uber Game Show. It felt like it dragged on a bit, but it was very good overall. 7/10
4: Skydiving. I love Please Don't Destroy, and this sketch is a great return for them after their mediocre Maya Rudolph one last season. It doesn't really go anywhere unexpected, but it's really funny. 8/10
3: Horror Choreographer. Probably more entertaining than the actual Halloween movies nowadays. 8/10
2: TikTok. I usually don't like the TikTok sketches, but this one absolutely killed. 9/10
1: Forbidden Romance. They had a joke, they pulled it off, they didn't overstay their welcome, it was perfect. 10/10
Weekend Update: Sarah's bit was a little disappointing, but there were some great jokes, and it's great seeing more from Emil. He's really settling into his comedic style, and I salute that. 8/10
Musical Guest: Billie Eilish is phenomenal. She is a natural performer, and her songs are some of the best to come out this year on their own. No notes. 10/10
Overall: 8/10.
