Well....even Bill Burr couldn't save this mess.
The "cold open" had both the smug and cringe meter running full blast. None of the "sarcastic jokes" landed. It was cannon fodder for critics. Just simply lazy having the cast come out in their "street clothing". Let's face it, the ensemble hasn't been good since about the mid 90's.
Weekend update was an epic failure. Jost and Che have never been better than adequate. For this episode they were simply bad. Mean spirited jokes that didn't land.
We were spoiled with Norm MacDonald and no one has even come close since he was taken off Weekend Update.
I turned it off Weekend Update. I'm being charitable when I call the show dismal. JMHO.

Here's a quick review of last night's SNL episode.
Cold Open: Perfection. Every single sarcastic sentence was executed perfectly. I couldn't think of a better way to address what happened Tuesday. 10/10
Opening Monologue: Sure, it was the slightest bit insensitive, but it was really funny, and that's what I'm looking for. 8/10
Sketches: There were eight sketches in last night's episode. Here they are, ranked.
The One That's Not Very Good: I Got One. I know that the joke is that they're not very funny. The problem is, they're not very funny. 5/10
7: The Janitor. I will admit, the comedic timing was great. The thing is, I just can't enjoy vomit humor. 6/10.
6: Trauma Support Group. I think it just hit a bit too close to home. My dog died earlier this week, and when Bowen was just talking over Ashley when her character was opening up about the death of her dog, I just wanted to strangle him. Still a pretty funny sketch. 7/10
5: Calling Dad. The placement is what did it. It's a sketch about dads and sports after one featuring a dad and one about sports. I might just not find it that relatable yet. 7/10
4: Sex Rock CD. Honesty, this is what it feels like to talk about music with my dad. 8/10
3: Buffalo Wild Wings. I love how chaotic this one is. They pull it off so well. 8/10
2: Bald Guys. The musical number nobody asked for, but still went on. I love to see it. 9/10
1: Rorschach Test. I love that this exists. 10/10
Weekend Update: I know they had to make jokes about the election, but I just don't want to think about it. Once they got past that, though, it was all good. A solid segment. 7/10
Musical Guest: My favorite thing about Mk.gee is that he's an incredible musician already, and clearly knows exactly what he's doing, but I can still see the incredible artist he'll eventually grow into. 9/10
Overall: 8/10.
