Accommodations

After a so-so pilot episode and some visible changes in creative personnel behind the camera ahead of the first episode proper, I was interested to see how 'Shifting Gears' would progress.

The answer is...much of the same.

I just wonder how many times the show can repeat the cycle of 'daughters modern values clashes with fathers old school approach, both they both learn from each other' before it becomes dull.

I like the two leads, but this is the thinnest Tim Allen sitcom in terms of potential for me currently.

Good natured social commentary, funny, and kind hearted episode.

The timing is improving greatly and the humor has some zing to it.

The actors seem comfortable and their characters more defined.

Say what you will about tim allen, but he has learned a few things over the years and he has a lot of life lessons to share.

Remember, he started out with a felony conviction for drug trafficking (cocaine), and did 2 years hard time before being paroled and then trying stand up comedy.

He's now a gazillionaire, so anybody who isn't also in that tax bracket might want to listen up. :-)

the back and forth between he and kat dennings provides balance, food for thought, and some good jokes.

The scenes with the kids are getting better and better.

This show is juggling a lot of elements, we'll have to wait and see what predominates.

So after the very boring pilot I decided to go for another episode and sorry it didn't appeal to me. The laugh tracks are happening and I'm thinking if I'm supposed to laugh. Boring. But it was nice to see Brenda Song after a long time. Also how can someone cast Sean William Scott and not give him a character to he more wacky, I don't know!

Still trying to figure out if this is something that is I'll come around. It's like Tim Allen is trying to make another carbon copy of all his old shows. Except he doesn't have the charm of the old ones. Instead of a befuddled dad who learns something instead he is a boomer that tries to force his very one into antiquated thinking. In this episode he attacks kids who need extra help with the "pull up your bootstraps" cliche.

At least this episode had Tim Allen being a little real and human with his daughter. But the whole plot if the show was completely unaddressed and was just left as something to make fun of.

The side cast scenes are far better than any scene with tim Allen. Sad to see. He used to be very funny and relatable. Now he is the yelling boomer "in my day..." or "get off my lawn"
