Gee what a surprise, Riley started working at her dad's shop. Who could have ever imagined such a thing would happen? An amazing twist that everyone saw coming from the start. What next, her and Gabriel (Sean William Scott) getting into a romantic relationship that must, at all costs, be kept secret from Matt (Tim Allen)? That could never happen, could it? This show is lame and not even groaning lame, I mean lame as all the jokes are telegraphed a mile ahead of the punch lines. The setups are reminiscent of bad 70s sitcoms. You can watch the first five minutes and pretty much interpret the whole rest of the show all the way up to its conclusion.

It could get better but it doesn't look like it's headed that way. New writing would definitely be a step in the right direction.

...you never know what kind of episode you're going to get each week, but so far it's all good!

"the Job" is a return to classic sitcom form.

It's a very funny episode with rapid fire jokes.

The leads have a good rhythm going, and the supporting characters are developing nicely (although seann william scott's character bears an uncanny, even a bit repetitive, resemblance to the appealing "kyle" from Last Man Standing.) i do like the way they are switching up the tone of the show.

So far the only overriding theme seems to be "loss", whether comedically or seriously dealt with.

A bit of reflection for tim allen or a conscious decision to explore new territory in the standard sitcom?

Either way, will keep watching to see what happens next!

This show is trying to find its feet and indeed itself. You get the sense that there's a bit of a disconnect behind the scenes. When you see the whole squad of Executive Producers (many of whom have run their own shows), you can see why.

Tim Allen and Kat Dennings are good sitcom leads and have good chemistry, so the show has potential there.

The sitcom generic kids and supporting characters are what is holding this back for me. Where does this show go longer term?

This however was the best episode so far, and the story being told was stronger.

There's potential here, it just needs to grow into itself.

I wanted to love this show. It's a great cast - but the writing is terrible. It seems like this third episode was supposed to be the second and vice versa. This episode is the kids first day of school, which they already attended in ep 2. She needs money to hire a lawyer, which she already had a meeting with in ep 2.

There are also contradictions from previous episodes - and it's just three episodes in. She says her college degree isn't helping her get a job, but in ep 2, she stated that she didn't go to college and had no degree.

I'm done. I wanted to like this but I just can't watch anymore. The production is just too sloppy.
