A disappointing addition to the horror genre that doesn't bring anything new to the table
I watched Coyotes (2025) in theaters last night. The storyline follows a storm that hits Hollywood, leaving a wealthy family in the Hollywood Hills trapped in their home during a sudden coyote outbreak. With limited resources, no power, and little chance of outside help, the family must fight to survive. But why are the coyotes specifically targeting the Hollywood Hills?
The film is directed by Colin Minihan (Grave Encounters) and stars Justin Long (Jeepers Creepers), Kate Bosworth (Superman Returns), Brittany Allen (The Boys), and Katherine McNamara (Arrow).
This is a "when animals attack" dark comedy with a mix of horror and humor. While it has a few entertaining moments, it's not a must-see or a film to approach with high expectations. There are stronger entries in this subgenre-Lake Placid, Piranha, and Arachnophobia, to name a few. The storyline and setting feel generic, and although the cast is solid, the comedic elements often feel forced.
On the positive side, the horror elements are worthwhile. The CGI coyotes look surprisingly good, and the bite scenes feature intense and effective gore. The corpses are impressively crafted, with standout makeup work. A memorable grill scene and a creative shark cage sequence add some flair. Still, despite these moments, the movie never rises above average and won't stand out either as a notable horror film of the year or as a memorable entry in the animal-attack category.
In conclusion, Coyotes is a disappointing addition to the horror genre that doesn't bring anything new to the table. Final score: 4/10.

Decent thrills, Little substance
It promises a tense survival thriller but delivers only half the bite. While the setup, a wealthy family trapped by wildfires and hunted by coyotes, has potential, the execution feels uneven.
The suspense works in parts, and Justin Long gives a decent performance. The digital coyotes, meant to be menacing, often look artificial and drain the tension from key scenes.
Overall, it's a decent one-time watch with a few gripping moments, but not enough to leave a lasting impression.

It was alright.... I Guess
Had some bad effects that really ruined the immersion. Alaywas good to see justin long in a movie but this was not it. It had a lot of pacing issues and I feel the script was just not good enough to really be a movie. Felt forced in a lot of ways and in the end it just ended up mid. I dont even know if the concept is movie worthy.
Oh dear lord the writing....
Justin Long has been in some questionable movies, so maybe this should have been an indicator as to how this movie would go....
The writing is diabolical. Diabolical! I don't want to give any spoilers, but you will laugh at some of the coyote situations.
The family scenes are so cringeworthy and embarrassing that it feels more like a cheesy tv series (like Z-Nation, which actually gets away with it) than a movie co-starring Kate Bosworth. This movie does not reflect well on her either by the way.
The plot is questionable from the outset, and implausible throughout.
This is not one of those it's so bad it's good movies. It's just plain painful.

Terrible cgi, forced comedy and lame horror.
The makers were confused. They didn't know which way to focus more. They tried hard to show the horrors of climate change, animal rights, hollywood elites but somehow they focused less on the scare or comedy factor.
The reason for the coyotes going berserk was similar to the one from Megan Fox's Rogue but both the movies has terrible cgi created animals.
