I got to see this at the Edinburgh film festival and it was such an interesting and thought provoking concept by Elliot Tuttle that I couldn't wait to see it after I had heard about. The ideas and themes he explores are fantastic whilst also eventually exploring the heavier topics this film touches on. Whilst I did enjoy a lot of aspects, I did sadly have one major gripe about the film that did take a fair bit of enjoyment away from it and that was with its lead.
Kieron Moore stars as Aaron Eagle the camboy at the centre of this film and sadly I felt his performance was severely lacking and took away so much from this film and seemed as if he was trying too hard and took you out of the film which sadly meant that Elliot's ideas and also his co-star Reed had to carry more. I don't know whether this was his first thing he's acted in as I've not seen anything else but his accent was not very good at all and felt like someone trying do a bad impression rather than bring you in and make you feel a part of the story.
Reed Birney was excellent as he always is in everything and is a powerhouse of an actor and continues that with an excellent performance. The cinematography was wonderful and really added so much to so many shots that gave you a sense of unease and trepidation and enhanced the film throughout.
I look forward to seeing Reed in everything going forward as I always do and also to Elliot's next ideas and work, just hopefully with a better lead next time.
