Ghostland: A Journey Through Syria

A small indie comedy club running from someone's mum's house, a famous documentary photographer and a skate-park coach. Director Matt Dworzanczyk's latest movie shows what one person with a camera can do in telling diverse stories. Help the people of Syria by connecting with these characters and seeing for yourself what is behind the headlines of unrest.

In the west, especially the US, it is easy to think of the Middle East as just that-- a vaguely understood, conflict-driven mass of land somewhere between Russia and western Europe. Ghostland: A Journey Through Syria tears through that facade to reveal the real Syria: its people. It is a marvelous tale of human resilience and cultural fortitude and acts as an appropriately loud reminder that Syrians continue to live, create, love, and survive in spite of much of the world's attempts to keep them out of sight. Not only are the people featured in this documentary (Ahmad, Wasim, Shareif, and so on) unforgettable in their own right, their collective resolution to thrive through their art, sports, and comradery is inspiring and simply a pleasure to watch.

Throughout the film, Matt depicts his Syrian expedition with grace, energy, and great respect for for his subject matter. The real treat of Ghostland's assembly is Matt's ability to make the viewer feel as if they are alongside him for his journey. When Matt says he is sad to leave Syria, one cannot help but empathize with him.

Ultimately, Ghostland is both heartwrenching and utterly endearing. This is a truly critical film in the pursuit of understanding Syria.

The story, the journey, the atmosphere is all top notch!!

I had no idea about Syria in this way! And i really enjoyed how the people were so friendly and welcoming you also show the side of syria that no body knew about, there were some sad moments and happy moments which made the movie so much touching also the places you picked were so cool i laughed out loud during many moments also i felt you were truly happy when you visited every place that you have been through and the people really enjoyed your presence the movie after all is absolutely amazing and it must be watched
