After reading the 10/10 reviews I am left wondering if those who left the reviews watched the same movie or were friends and family since it wasn't my experience. I was really looking forward to this series and even though it started out slow, it kept my attention early on thinking... this is surely going to get better. Unfortunately, it slowed mostly towards the last few episodes and left me feeling depressed and bored wanting to skip sections. I found the acting wasn't the problem, it was the delivery of the story line and the lack of realism in the characters interactions. There is sections of just them getting on with work and life which was didn't really develop the relationships of the characters and it was very boring. Gyeom didn't speak about his family problems with Moobi as normal people would to promote understanding. Sijun walked all over Jooah to get what she wanted and he just acted like a depressed puppy and unrealistically he let her. Unfortunately I can't get my time back but I can without a doubt say that I regret not turning it off sooner. It just didn't improve. Maybe I'm just not into depressing, sad, slow shows but that's the only way I can describe it, all the way through. There is no feel good, no realistic character development and it's a shame since the story line could've been so much more. I would rather watch paint dry than watch this series again.
There was great acting in this series. You could really feel emotions and some really good ideas. The supporting actors were incredible as well especially the brother. They spent a long long time building the characters' history and reason for their personalities and then suddenly broke them down and forgot all about it. For example it made no sense for the ML to throw out all the precious items belonging to his beloved brother. It made no sense for him to stop liking movies and get rid of everything. It made no sense for him to no longer be a movie critic. The supporting couple not getting back together made no sense and the chemistry between the two lead actors went from quite good to brother / sister energy. This series had a lot of promise but it's almost as if they didn't plan the last few episodes at all or changed their minds on how to end it.
Great series all the way until the end. Too much left unresolved. Some of the storylines resolved horribly. Acting was good, which made it bare able in the end. I was left think, ok there should be 2 to 3 more episodes. Loved Park Bo-young and Choi Woo-shik. The way each Episode ended was kind of confusing with time flow. So watch all the way to credits or you'll miss something. The soundtrack was excellent and was another plus for the series. I really think Melo movie could do with a second season. So if you're looking for a short series that's just okay, this is it. It won't get you hooked on K-dramas, but it will help past a boring weekend.
Yet another K romcom that has as much sex appeal as a bathtub full of rubber duckies.
Which is what to expect when the emotional intelligence EQ of the 2 leads has remained at elementary school level. What's with these endless coy K dramas that keep the leads in arrested development for the whole show and likely their whole lives?
How can the titular film director expect to do more than make insipid "melo lite" movies when her romantic experience is nil? And same question goes for the film critic boyfriend who has no life experience other than a sick brother and an emotionally stunted best friend - he's going to be a popular film reviewer?
This may be the first time I've seen a K drama when the second leads have a more interesting and believable relationship than the stars. Not that their relationship had a lot of insight or maturity either but at least they had some growth and realization. The leads? I doubt they will ever have kids because they haven't discovered the meaning of passion and sex. Children forever who only have a modicum of careers because the writers gave it to them.
The show had promise until about E5 and then it just went into stalled car mode for the rest of the movie. Even the tragedy that happened was barely addressed and didn't show any growth or deeper connection for the leads.
5 stars for the first 5 episodes.

Not your usual chebol - corruption - amnesia - love triangle - destiny drama. But unfortunately not very interesting either. The story is not convincing, adults are behaving like self centred, spoiled teenagers and the conflicts solely arise by just not talking to one another. The most interesting story is that of the elder brother, Jun. This had potential but was just a minor point. The inner monologues were mostly pseudo philosophical, it would have been much better if they had just been dialogues. But then again, it would have been even more obvious that this drama lacked a compelling story. Fast forwarded through most of it but should have stopped after episode 2 because it doesn't get any better.
