The third episode of the roshans is about rakesh roshan. When his dad roshan passed away, the family responsibilities came on to his shoulders. On top of that, he also got married at a young age. He started as assistant director, later starting acting various kind of small roles in films to support his family. He once got offered a lead role in basu chatterjee's film but got demoted to a supporting role due to the producer and heroine refusing to cast him. Rakesh roshan couldn't turn into a successful lead actor. If he played lead roles, those would be female oriented films. He tried producing and acting also but still failed. He finally got success when he turned into a director with khudgarz in 1987. Then he went on to direct hits like khoon bhari maang, kishan kanhaiya, blockbuster karan arjun, giving his son a dream debut in kaho naa pyaar hai, then relaunching him with koi mil gaya leading to a superhero franchise krrish.
The struggles of rakesh ji was so relatable as so many elder sons of the family had to work hard to provide them. On one hand his brother and son got success early, he had to wait for years to get that. I liked also that he mentioned of his failed acting career which was due to his lack of projection which lead him to quit acting and turn into director. Only drawback, i felt was the underworld attack and his battle with cancer segments were mentioned in the hrithik roshan episode which was actually apt here.
As summarised by hrithik, like in real life even in his movies (khoon bhari maang, karan arjun and koi mil gaya), he shows an underdog ridiculed by others rising like a Phoenix achieving their goal.
