The Guest

Rarely have I ever written a review for a series, but I've just this minute finished binge watching The Guest and felt a need to add my thoughts.

Many reviews of many shows are rated low due to perceived implausibilty, which I find ridiculous. TV is entertainment, it's escapism. As far as I'm concerned, the quality of a series is linked to how well it is acted, how engaging the story is, if I care about the characters, the cinematography, the score, etc etc, and The Guest delivered in all these aspects, despite some implausible scenes.

Eve Myles and Gabrielle Creevy are fantastic as the two leads. The show has many good characters, but ultimately it's the intriguing relationship between this pair of women that holds your attention.

I actually became emotional watching the final scenes between Eve and Gabrielle, that's the power of truly wonderful actors at the top of their game.

Invite yourself over to The Guest, it doesn't outstay its welcome, and will keep you guessing til the end.

Started off ok but got more and more ridiculous and lazy, ended up getting angry with the writers and the increasingly ridiculous plot. Felt like a school play that the students wrote and put on for their gcse drama course. Had potential and good actors but just lost its way and became stupid snd frustrating. I'd rather do the ironing than watch more episodes of this annoying and far fetched plot. Shame as it could have been so good. Beautiful houses and locations and good actors.

A gripping and edge of seat thriller/drama.

I forced myself not to binge watch it into the early hours and couldn't wait to watch it the next day! Great acting by the two main actresses - playing characters which I care about. It feels more like a film due to the wonderful cinematography which is moody, atmospheric with warm lighting for a lot of it. Impressive indoor sets - realistic for the story line and incredible stunning and unusual coastal scenes. The music is well composed and adds greatly to the edge of eat experience an yet is non intrusive (unlike some TV series) I was captivated and tense until the last moments of Episode Four!

The best drama/thriller I have seen on BBC in a good while.

* Excellent acting from all the main characters.

* Fantastic locations - and unlike some of Netflix's series where the lavish settings feel like they only did it because they had a massive budget to blow, they make sense here.

* hooray, a story that hasn't already been shown endlessly already, which zips along and keeps you guessing, gripped, and builds genuine tension. Is it improbable - yes sure. Does it matter - no, you're too busy trying to figure out the plot and stressing over what might happen next...

An enjoyable thriller which moves at an agreeable pace. Eva Myles is a great watch and looks like she's having the time of her life in a succession of glamorous outfits as a wealthy business woman with dark secrets. There's a few events that stretch credulity but mostly you're happy to glide over those for the overall reward. However, without spoiler, I can't reconcile how a character, who proves ultimately to have been involved in the whole nefarious business that's going on, should go off the deep end with catastrophic outcomes when he finds out the girl he's dating is not who she pretends to be?
