His Nerd

I wasn't expecting anything groundbreaking from the plot of this movie since the beginning but I decided to give it the benefit of the doubt. I was disappointed, the lines in some of these conversations were just wild and so robotic. Half of the time if there weren't subtitles I wouldn't catch what the main character guy was saying. Left me feeling plain and honestly numb, which if a movie can't awake any literally emotions in you and just bore it's unfortunately a waste of time.

His Nerd starring Joseph Purcell as Hunter and Amanda Troya as Ava is not your typical high school drama. Ava, determined to become valedictorian, finds her intelligence makes her the target of bullies. Hunter, a soccer star struggling with school due to his sister's illness and the pressures of supporting his family, sees Ava being mistreated and steps in. He proposes a deal: she'll be his tutor so he can earn a scholarship, and he'll be her fake boyfriend to keep the bullies away.

What unfolds is a heartfelt story of trust, growth, and an unexpected romance. The chemistry between Purcell and Troya brings warmth and authenticity to the film, making it a refreshing take on the genre.

Joseph Purcell is fantastic as Hunter-remarkably so considering this is his first acting role beyond family projects. Even with a famous father, Joseph proves himself on his own merits. His performance is natural, layered, and completely engaging. He has the charisma and screen presence of a seasoned actor, and it's clear this is only the beginning of an exciting career.

His Nerd is both fun and touching, and Joseph Purcell is undoubtedly a talent to watch. Hopefully, this film opens the door to many more opportunities for him across platforms and genres.
