As an act of good faith, Qiao Man gives the Panyi seal to Wei Shao, only for him to throw her out of Xindu. Her caravan is then rescued by her cousin and former betrothed Liu Yan, and they travel to Panyi together. Once there, Liu Yan wants to renew their betrothal but restricts her movements for her own safety. Once Wei Shao finds out that Qiao Man had gone to Panyi with Liu Yan, he and his army soon follow with the intent to kill them both. But, Qiao Man finds out that Liu Yan intends to flood Xindu by blowing up an old dam, so she thwarts his plans in order save the innocent people of Xindu.
