- Tapak is a horror anthology film made up of three interconnected stories, all tied together by the theme of mysterious and dangerous rainfall in different parts of India. Each chapter explores how something as beautiful and natural as rain can bring with it ancient evils and untold horrors.
The first story, Nest, takes place in a remote village where two curious teenagers discover an old, abandoned tower. The tower is believed to be cursed, and villagers have stayed away from it for generations. The teens, driven by curiosity, break in and unknowingly release a witch who had been trapped inside for decades. Once freed, the witch begins to haunt the village, causing fear and destruction. The story ends with the village in chaos and one of the teens disappearing mysteriously during a storm.
The second story, The Umbrella Uncle, follows a cursed umbrella that moves from one person to another in a rain-soaked village. Whoever uses the umbrella soon falls seriously ill. The curse spreads quickly, and panic grows among the villagers. As people try to get rid of the umbrella, it keeps returning to new owners. Eventually, an old man realizes the curse began decades ago when a cruel landlord was killed during a storm, and his spirit attached itself to the umbrella. In a desperate attempt to end the curse, the villagers perform a ritual during a thunderstorm and bury the umbrella. But just as they think it's over, the umbrella appears again on a shop shelf, hinting the evil is not gone.
The final story, After the Hailstorm, begins with a mother and her young son running away after the mother commits a murder to protect her child from abuse. They hide in a dense jungle as heavy rain falls. But they are not alone, something in the forest begins stalking them. The more they run, the more disoriented and paranoid they become. Strange visions appear, and the mother begins to lose her grip on reality. It is revealed that the spirit of the murdered man is following them, merged with a vengeful force in the forest that awakens only during the rains. In the end, the mother disappears into the jungle, and the boy is found wandering alone, unable to speak, with rain still falling around him.
Though each story has its own characters and setting, all three are connected by the strange behavior of the rain, rain that arrives at the wrong time, lingers too long, and seems to know more than it should. As the film closes, subtle links between the stories are revealed, showing that the rainfall is not just a coincidence, but a recurring force tied to unresolved pain and ancient darkness.
