- Saba is on her first visit to Calcutta, searching for her roots. Her mother, Maya, had been adopted by a kind-hearted man named Doctor Rehman after the untimely demise of her biological parents. Despite repeated attempts to trace Maya's ancestry, all efforts failed her parents' photo IDs had fake addresses, and their true background remained an unsolved mystery. However, Maya always kept the photographs of both her biological and foster parents on her bedside table. One day, Saba noticed a faint stamp behind the photographs an old photo studio in Kolkata. This single clue sets her on a quest to uncover the truth.
Saba's search leads her first to a decrepit, long-abandoned building that once housed the photo studio. From there, she traces her path to the grand but fading Roychoudhury ancestral home, aptly named 'Maya Kunjo'. It is here that Saba meets the remaining members of her biological grandfather Alok Roychowdhury's family. Alok hailed from a wealthy and aristocratic Bengali household in Calcutta. In the mid-1950s, shortly after returning from England, the young Alok had fallen deeply in love with Suzanne, a beautiful and charming Anglo-Indian crooner who sang at the legendary Park Street nightclub, Trincas one of the city's most iconic establishments that, to this day, has never shut its doors.
As Saba digs deeper, she uncovers the dramatic story that had unfolded decades ago. Alok and Suzanne, caught in the web of societal expectations and family opposition, had fled the city and retreated into hiding in a remote tea garden bungalow near Darjeeling. They attempted to erase all traces of their past and build a new life from scratch. It is during this phase of Saba's search that she stumbles upon a long-forgotten, confidential letter written by Alok's father, N. N. Roychowdhury, meant for Alok in case he ever returned. The letter contains a cryptic riddle, hinting at something immensely valuable something that had remained buried in silence all these years. Intrigued, Saba takes it upon herself to unravel the mystery.
To assist her in her quest, she turns to Bouddhayan Chatterjee, an elderly, scholarly Bengali man and a renowned authority on Calcutta's history and heritage. His insights become crucial in guiding her. Along the way, Saba also meets Topshey, a young and spirited virtual tour guide of Kolkata, who has a deep love for detective stories and an encyclopedic knowledge of Satyajit Ray's legendary character, Feluda. Throughout their thrilling journey, Topshey peppers their adventures with Feluda trivia and quizzes, bringing a touch of wit and nostalgia to the investigation.
Their search spans historic locations from the solemn St. John's Church in Kolkata to an old boarding school nestled in the hills of Darjeeling. At one point, they find themselves at a frustrating dead end. But fate intervenes, and they stumble upon the final, decisive clue. What follows is a cascade of revelations, as hidden truths come to light and long-buried secrets are unearthed. The mystery finally resolves, the puzzle is completed, and skeletons tumble out of the closet, leading to moments of joy, closure, and a celebration of newfound connections.
