It started off being fairly interesting. I liked the characters... but there were a lot of inconsistencies in the story. I don't want to spoil it, but it contradicted itself at times. There were also times that it went gory just to add a gory bit to it... even if it destroyed a character's progression. I also don't like how there was so much racism in the story... not just one character, which could be part of the whole development plot or character development, but the overarching feeling that white people are only good for fertilizer, all while making many Indians drunks or sexual deviants. The one white character did address the racism towards her, but it seemed to be an acceptable thing. It was quite a distraction for the movie that really didn't add anything at all to the plot. They could not want anyone in their camp for many reasons... no reason to make that one of the reasons. Then as the movie went on it just stayed flat for the most part.
That being said, I liked some of the characters and the actors were good. I do wish they had better writing with more consistency to work with.

I don't want to give it away, but I will just say the actors had to have had a BLAST playing their characters this way. The people who rated this as a 2 must be disgruntled employees. Acting = great, Story = Great, Pace = Great, characters = Interesting.... and I know only the 2nd episode has been released, but so far NO Ideologies, social issues, or virtue signalling is being shoved down my throat... just story. So refreshing! I like this show just as much, if not more, than Alien... it's more than just scary... lots of fantasy concepts here also.... which makes my Sci-Fi loving heart feel complete. :)
Travis Fimmel is one of the best actors around. In fact, if Travis Fimmel was in a movie called "Let's Watch Paint Dry Together," I would watch it because I know he is going to find a way to make it interesting. He is like a character actor with a twist. I am not sure if Travis had a difficult childhood or not, but no matter what he is in, he seems to be drawing from something. He has either seen a lot of trauma or he is in the business of people reading and watching like no other.
I see in the reviews that people are complaining about the supporting actor's acting. I know there were times it was hard... especially in the 1st season with the young girl ranting about Black Lives Matter (what did that have to do with the show?)... the 2nd season was a LOT better IMHO, but I don't want to spoil it. Travis Fimmel is a good actor. Anyone who is standing next to him and wants to be seen at all, better be pouring out the charisma and charm like he does. Even when he is doing something horrible in the show, he still comes across as charming. I think he comes across as almost uncomfortable when he has to "act" like a nice guy. I think this one reason why he picks complicated characters. He is complicated himself. The pleasantries and small talk must be painful for him in real life. This is exactly why I say I would watch a movie about paint drying if Travis Fimmel were the lead in it... I know he is not picking up some frivolous character that is shallow and fake. He is going to pick scripts where he can go deep and be one with the story... and that's the only reason this series works (outside of some of the writing - although not all) because Travis Fimmel has woven himself into the series. He has to be EXHAUSTED to do this every time he agrees to take a role. To be that invested every time is incredible. He either loves his job, or he has his own demons he is dealing with, either way, his art shines through. Great series. Other actors and those in production, did fine as well. It takes a team to make a dream. Loved it. Hope there is a season 3.
