First off the Magellan scans are amazing, and Parks Stephenson is a great guy, but this documentary was disappointing, but I expected it to be. It's another generic format documentary that came across as cold and insincere. Much of the content was filler as expected, and the shots they show of the digital scans are heavily darkened with shadows so a lot of details are lost. This is merely casual viewing for someone flicking through Netflix/Disney, not your well versed Titanic enthusiast, fortunately there is a lot better content on Youtube these days with various creators genuinely passionate about Titanic that go into a lot more detail. I suppose 'The Digital Resurrection' is still worth a watch but it's a reminder to me how lazy documentaries have become, a lot more effort was put into Titanic documentaries decades ago and when you see the likes of this one it shows.
This film drew me in with a potentially interesting premise yet it was squandered with a woefully weak plot that became endlessly frustrating. Straight off the bat the Australian/English actors doing lousy American accents conveyed insincerity, it only got worse from there with other poor acting performances from numerous actors. I suppose that can be put down to the poorly written script and poor direction, there was no organic interaction between the actors, it felt like watching a high school film project at times. The pacing and film style was hopelessly painful too, nearly 2 hours of watching paint dry, easily one of the worst courtroom based films I've had the displeasure of watching. It's important to disregard that 'Clint Eastwood' directed it, it's likely he was just a stand in so they could attach his name to it while other amateurs did the bulk of the work. Avoid this movie if you value your time!
This was one of those films that flew under the radar, I remember seeing adverts in 2013 for it's theatrical release but I never bothered going. At the time I felt we were too saturated with other sci-fi themed films and it was becoming somewhat tiresome. Fast forward 8 years and I finally watched in 2021, to my surprise I absolutely loved this film. The ambience, visuals and performance from the leading cast drew you into the story of this strange new dystopian world, with plenty of plot twists it keeps you on your toes all the way to the end. The soundtrack is also excellent and compliments the mood of the film perfectly. If you are looking for a truly enjoyable experience with well worth the 2 hour runtime. My suggestion is to watch the BlueRay version on a decent sized TV with a good sound system in a darkroom.
