This is by far my favorite Taylor Sheridan series, from the first episode. The writing is impeccable, the acting fantastic and the photography stunning. I get a visceral response to so many of the scenes, feeling like I'm right there. And it just keeps getting better. My only complaint is the Whitfield story line and the gratuitous scenes of sexual sadism. We get it, Whitfield is a sick degenerate, but the scenes are becoming more perverted, nearing soft core porn. It's unnecessary and we couldn't possibly like him less because of it. Time to move on from that story line, Mr. Sheridan, before it starts seeming that the writers are the degenerates. Because of this, I rate it 9 out of 10.
Matt Damon's best performance. He completely and authentically inhabits the character. And Abigail Breslin was fantastic. I enjoyed the story and pace, which held my interest throughout. Knowing very little about Marseille, I definitely got the feeling it's no longer the city it was, having changed drastically demographically. The town just seemed very sad and in decline.
All in all, it is a solid and engaging film.

Very well made film and the cinematography is some of the best I've ever seen. Repugnant subject matter and depicts the worst misogyny I've ever seen - worse than The Handmaid's Tale, Mad Men etc. The movie depicts violence, cruelty, and sadism toward women and animals; two things at the top of my list that I hate. That said, I don't judge a movie on the subject matter but rather all the elements of film. The acting was incredible and while it's hard to believe anyone could ever endure what all the female characters did, I've no doubt there's some very real truth behind it, even today, and therefore didn't find the subject matter far fetched.
