This was a filler episode. You could miss it out entirely and pick up next week quite happily. Literally nothing happens. Characters talk slowly to each other about nothing very much. I've already forgotten. It completely fails on both an entertainment level and at the advancing plot level. It feels like we are still waiting for the real show to start.
I went into this with high hopes, being a fan of the Alien movies and the recent Evil Dead. I'm left a bit disappointed to be honest. Too much time running around In corridors, not enough aliens, no tension building. Some of the editing is a little odd, and many missed opportunities that could have been darker and more gritty. All in all it never really seemed to get going, and relied too heavily on familiar tropes pulled from previous outings in this universe.
On the good side, the effects and world building and performances are all solid, it's just not enough to give this the impact it needs to propel itself forwards.

Not sure why, but the writing from episode 4 became so infantile, so corny ("we have to stop them, because we can") and other laughable examples ("the world is broken, and you're the only one that can put it back together")
The walking dead gave itself little wriggle room early on by creating a basic formula and never deviating from it. Survive and move, hunker down until this season's bad guy makes us move. Beat the big bad, then hunker down again. No attempt at a solution or a cure or forming anything more, nothing to strive for except "don't die"
"The ones who live" follows more or less the same pattern, just with soap opera writing and fewer characters that we can care about. I sat through it, largely because there was nothing else I wanted to watch at that time, but it wasn't worth the wait.
