I am writing this review as I am watching the remake. I can't help it, but this movie is really pointless.
Lets start with the positives. I do like the redesign of sone of the dragons. Gerard Buttler, Nick Frost are pretty fun in their roles, and Astrid was portrayed pretty well... I can't complain about the plot, because it is pretty much exactly the same as the animated movie with some scenes omitted for some reason. I just feel like, the live action version of some of the most powerful scenes are a lukewarm substitute. The first flight for example, the combination of the facial expressions, the music, the editing all work together to create a powerful emotional scene... In the original. They changed the music, during the scene, the edits make it feel shaky and the actor portraying Hiccup is really struggling.
This movie should have stayed a cartoon. Remaking it i. Live action brings nothing of value to the movie, rather it makes every scene feel diluted and more boring. Also, the look of the movie is very often obvious green screens with tenis balls.
If this were an original movie as is, I'd rate it higher because it is still the same good plot, likeable characters and fun fantasy setting of dragon riding vikings, but alas, there is a superior version of this movie and it remains the animated one.

The Pirates is a fun family adventure movie with epic music, lively animation and plenty of action. The Pirate captain strives to gain respect among his peers and his crew becomes mixed up in a plot centered around a Dodo bird, believed to be extinct. Along his way he meets Charles Darwin and Queen Victoria who has her own plans with the bird. All in all, this is a fine fun movie with a pirate theme that can be enjoyed by the whole family.
The trailers and talent behind this movie would have one hope, that this would be an another addition to great racing dramas that had been coming out 'recently' like Rush (2013) or Ford v Ferrari (2019) but alas it is more like Grand Turismo (2023).
The plot is paper thin. The focus is on a failing F1 team that needs to get at least a couple points in the rest of the season, lest they be sold causing a major financial loss for the owner and personnel would lose their jobs. The young driver already in the team is convinced this fate is inevitable hence he tries to do his best to make himself visible to other teams, so that next season he might start under a new team. The owner desperately tries to avoid this fate so he gambles on bringing in Brad Pitt as his second driver. Brad Pitt used to be an F1 driver 30 years ago until an accident ended his potential rise to fame.
The movie is shot well and has loads of entertaining parts. Brad Pitt is witty and unorthodox in his interpretation of the F1 rules which leads to some fun situations. I surely had a good time watching the movie, though I never developed any emotional investment as to what was happening on screen. For one, I kept seeing the actors, rather than them being characters and I never really cared about what would happen to any of them. I fear this movie won't leave any lasting impression on me, and I will struggle to recall anything about it a couple weeks from now. If you happen to stumble upon it, it is a good time, but it won't be remembered.
