  • Mediocre

What a boring movie. I watched it last week and already forgot about it.

It added nothing new to anything in my mind or in my life or to cinema.

Happily, I watched it on the plane, so I could jump forward. For example the endless sequence of them searching for her "husband".

The editing is so bad. A director editing his own movie. The scenes drag on and on and on. How many times did the main actress repeat "What the f* is going on?" and "get outt here motherf*"? At least a hundred times.

Also the acting is at best middle class. No memorable performances. How this girl did end up with an Oscar will forever remain a mystery to me. I guarantee you that she will have a short careeer and soon be forgotten.

The only good scene was the last scene in the car. This scene probably saved the movie. I finally got to feel something for the characters.

Before, I couldn't care less. This stupid rich kid just annoyed me. What a hollow idiot. The stripper herself also left me untouched. Her acting is so fake: she is trying desperately to be Julia Roberts likeable, but it doesn't work, because it's just too intrusive and obvious, this whole: hey I'm a stripper but I'm still an innocent good girl. I sell my body for money, but I have fun doing it and it's not so bad. And hey, we prostitutes even have fun when we have sex with our costumers. Yeah sure.

A Cinderella Disney story in a Grunge outfit, so pathetic.

The russians are so goofy and laughable, you feel pity for them. I was actually on their side and hoping that they will shut up that annoying girl finally !

The priest was the best actor and I was totally on his side.

I would give some credit for the scene in the russians-only discotheque on the beach. It was obviously shot with real-life people in a real-life setting, that was a refreshing 3 minutes in an otherwise dull movie.

You know, I would be more tolerant if this was just a film school graduation movie. For that, it would be acceptable and I would say, yes this director is promising.

But coming with the hype that it is riding on, I have to say: dull and boring movie, absolutely nothing new.

That this mediocre movie even won the Golden Palm in Cannes says everything about the depressing state of Arthouse Cinema.

They really couldn't find anything better in 2024?

  • Disappointing

Netflix has a reputation for throwing money at movies, assembling a few big-name stars, and banking on sheer visibility to make their projects successful. But with this film, they must have been disappointed when they saw the final product.

This one is a tough sit. The pacing feels disjointed, the characters lack depth, and it's hard to pinpoint who the intended audience really is. It's not quite a kids' movie, yet the concept is far too outlandish and poorly executed to resonate with an adult audience. Take, for instance, the all-robot fight scene featuring a live-action Chris Pratt-it's totally ridiculous, but not in a fun way.

It's one of those Netflix movies where you shut the laptop bored, telling yourself, "I'll better go to bed early than watch this dull crap."

To be honest I also didn't like the female lead at all. She is obviously in her mid-twenties, at least she looks it, and is supposed to play a teenager? She is a woman, not a girl! Why is she pretending to be a teenage girl, when she is a woman? Is this some kind of body-switch comedy? I was seriously wainting for this plot twist to happen. I hated to spend time with her. I found her boring and flat. I am 100% sure I am not the only one with this problem. In the scenes with her little brother, who later on plays the most significant role, I thought she was his mother.

So wait, you spend 300 Million on a movie, but you don't test the female lead?

Anway, the story didn't interest me at all. The bad guys weren't really bad, more goofy. There was nothing at stake. Am I supposed to feel for some tin robots?

  • These actors make you prefer robots over humans

The movie's already really bad, as you can read in the other reviews, but the main character actor Michelle Morone turns it into a total train wreck. This is honestly the worst acting I've seen in movies since years. They could have taken any dude from the street, and he would have performed better.

His emotions are just always wrong or all over the place. The moment he see's the sexy robot for the first time, for example, his face just stays blank, nothing happens, absolutely nothing. They must have taken a shot from the scene where he waits for his next line of dialogue. Wooden doesn't even describe his style of acting, it's worse. To be fair, the actress who plays his wife isn't much better. Or his collegue at work, who is not an actor, he's an over actor. These actors make you prefer robots over humans.

Don't even get me started on the script of this train wreck. Doesn't make any sense.
