I enjoyed this movie in spite of myself. The writing as a whole is pretty lazy. The dialogue is cringy as hell, they literally telegraph every little thing that's going to happen. The villains are supposed to be menacing, sarcastic and cool but they come off as goofy and dumb. The entire premise of the movie is so played out in terms of action films. Needy guy who never takes risks falls for a girl who convinces him to take risks, girl gets kidnapped, hijinks ensue. In this movie the main character played by Jack Quiad has a neurological disorder that makes it so he can't feel pain and that is the fun part about this movie, they do not shy away from that detail and they use it to full effect even if it gets so ridiculous and they don't have a great reason to put him in some of the situations he gets into it's like "how do we facilitate a torture scene? In the laziest way possible of course" but all that being said it was a fun, stupid, "turn your brain off" type of film that I did not hate.
Oof. I really enjoyed this series but there are so many plot conveniences that become harder and harder to ignore as the series progresses. Smart people become stupid when it's convenient, dumb people become smart when it's convenient, you'll be watching the show going "oh this is clever how they set this up how are they going to sort this out" then the writing just half asses the hell out of it... It's kind of funny really.
I'm in Canada watching the English dub and at first I thought maybe something was getting lost in translation but it became pretty obvious that was not the case towards the end.
Honestly I really enjoyed the show, more than a lot of other shows I've watched recently. It IS entertaining but if you watch it you'll see exactly what I mean.

Marvel has unfortunately become a laughing stock over the past few years as we all know, so when shows that are surprisingly good like this one pop up nobody wants to give it a chance, everyone just wants to pick away at any minute detail that isn't perfect and talk about what a cringe fest it is but the truth is, if this weren't a marvel show it would probably be praised as a fun adventure with an ensemble cast that exceeds the expectations set by the premise and marketing... It really is a great show. It's entertaining, the acting is on point, the one song could afford to be sung a few less times but whatever I can look past that.
It seems like Marvel has figured out that they CAN have a mostly all female cast without having to dumb any non female character down to a prop ripe for destruction, it feels like they may ACTUALLY be learning from their mistakes though I feel like it may be too late to the right the ship at this point... Unfortunately.
Katherine Han is and always will be one of my favorite actors, nothing could ever change that. She's funny and dramatic and does a fantastic job playing Agatha.
Give it a chance! I'm not a marvel "Stan" I do love a good marvel show but I consider myself a quality tv show fan and against all odds this IS a quality TV show.
