This series is filled with male chauvinistic views. Women are treated as if their main objective is to care after a man. Taking care of their father, husband or brother seems to be the main focus. The main character is abusive physically and verbally to his lover and mistreats his wife even worst. The main character moves his lover into his family home with his new wife. All sharing the same roof. He threatened and beats anyone who dares defy him. His lover is a crazy woman who cries hysterically while the male character also cries and screams. Their young daughter is the only innocent victim. She is neglected by her mother and her father is too busy threatening people if they go against him.

This movie directed by the great and famous Italian Ferzan Özpetek Director. This movie did not disappoint, The contents of this movie is for adult audiences. It definitely contains some very sensitive topics. The Turkish culture considers discussing such subjects a taboo. Homosexuality, suicide, alcoholism were part of the characteristics traits found in this movie. The Syrian refugee community and events lived by some refugees were also part of this story. This movie is not for the average audience it is dark due to the subject matter. The message it sends is not casual but hard truth. I enjoyed it and found it very entertaining.

Sahmaran was not what I was expecting, The storyline was not at all like the Turkish legend that I have read, some scenes made no sense and I was left with lots of questions. I ended up fast forwarding through most of episode two and decided to give it up after episode 2, the female lead did not impress me and the male lead was strange. I was really hoping for a better quality series. Netflix has a huge selection and I feel it made no sense in wasting my time watching several more episodes. I kept wondering if the main character was supposed to be a lizard or a snake. It was a waste of my time.
