The Fantastic Four: First Steps Review
This movie is a new spin on the 2007 movie "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer" but with a much more flushed out universe and a 1960s, retro-futuristic aesthetic. The movie draws inspiration from the Space Age, particularly the Apollo missions, and classic sci-fi films of that era. While set in the 1960s, it's an alternate 1960s, meaning it's not a direct representation of our Earth's history at the time.
It's a pre established story meaning that it's not the origin of the characters rather further in their careers as being superheroes. Which makes the most sense given how many times this franchise has been scrapped and rebuilt.
There were things I liked about this movie and some things I didn't like about it. For instance I'm really not fond of the casting, however I was rather pleased with tone. The story had alot of potential. And the world and aesthetic was visually appealing.
I know many early reviews of this movie stated that it was Sues story and that she was the leader of the Fantastic Four in this Universe however I saw very little signs of that being the truth. To me it felt as if she played her part accordingly to what makes sense and so did the rest of the characters.
But I definitely have some critiques.
This movie doesn't have very much action, if that's what you went into it looking forward to. It's much more of a sub plot movie with just some action sprinkled in here and there.
I also didn't like how nerfed the characters felt. Sue and Johnny felt like they was the most powerful in this version whereas in the 2007 film Reed Richards and The Thing felt far more physically capable of stopping threats. It also felt as if they just was out of their league dealing with the issues in the story. And at times the characters did things that just didnt make sense.
I also felt as if there was a bit too much focus on setting up the story rather than just telling the story. Family is a crucial theme throughout this movie however it's done in a way that makes the movie drag and made the movie boring at times.
Overall it's a decent movie, not terrible but also not the greatest marvel movie in my opinion. Just felt like the writers took on more than they could chew..

It's been a while since we've gotten a Superman movie and I know we've all been wanting one for a while. But in my opinion this movie has alot of flaws.
Superman feels more like Superboy. The story has a lot of inconsistencies, and it jumps all over the place. It's actually quite ridiculous at times with the writing decisions. Some of the scenes make absolutely no sense.
Wow... I really did not expect this movie to be like this. They shooting the baby! You'll understand what I mean by that when you watch the movie.
It wasnt all bad tho, I did enjoy some of the action scenes and Mr. Terrific was my favorite character by far. The special effects were also great. I also like David as Superman the casting was good. But I would honestly rather go back and watch Superman & Lois, Smallville, or Man of Steel than watch this again.
