I remember the original game show. The celebrities were well respected, humorous and entertaining. They each deserved to be there based upon their own merit. The host, Peter Marshal, was a presence all his own and everyone knew he was in charge. The 2025 version is another one of these new DEI love festivals. While I'm not convinced that the show is scripted, I do suspect the questions are provided to the celebrities in advance so they can prepare (or have a writer do it for them) a response they think may be funny or outrageous. They fail on each account. Drew Barrymore, although she has previously turned out entertaining performances, is not entertaining in this game show. Instead, she's borderline cringe worthy. The rest of the cast is no one I'd ever want to meet in person. They just aren't interesting. The contestants on the other hand seem disingenuous in their enthusiasm. During their little get to know you spiel, the camera close ups for the celebrities' reactions show they really are disinterested in what the contestants have to say about themselves. Plus, the contestants are rarely successful in agreeing or disagreeing with the answer to the questions offered by the celebrities. I gave this game show a shot, but only out of nostalgia for the enjoyment provided by the original series and cast. My best suggestion is to not waste your time because life is too short to waste on this nonsense.
These chimp mommies and PETA fanatics are all psychotic, but are on the extreme opposite of the spectrum. This documentary is very revealing about the mindset of both groups and their obsession and compulsion is a very sad and disturbing commentary on the ability of human emotion to defy logic and reason. Naturally, It would be best if Federal law would prohibit the private ownership of exotic animals. This documentary is a testament to the absolute fact that these exotic animals cannot be fully domesticated, and that is especially true for chimpanzees. These chimp mommies depicted in this film love their chimp babies so much and are so emotionally attached to them that they are willing to keep them incarcerated when they grow beyond the cute and cuddly stage. The film makers probably had no idea that they would be uncovering and depicting a serious mental illness associated with these chimp mommies. This film also reveals how members of PETA on the other hand are also compulsive and ultimately militant in their obsession to control and prohibit the private ownership of animals. Their emotions are also so out of control that they come off in the film, as they do in public spectacles, as frenzied fanatics seeking to prove their virtue to the world. This documentary is difficult to watch at times, but is informative and casts a light on a serious situation that needs to be remedied by Congress.
Broderick Crawford seems miscast as a law enforcement officer. His physical movements look strained as if he's walking around with a corn cob stuck up his caboose, and his interactions with colleagues and the public is almost always over the top aggressive. The series' storylines are consistently interesting and entertaining, and supporting actors and guest stars are very competent. One odd thing about the series is that it's rare for Crawford's Highway Patrol to collaborate with local police departments or the county sheriff's office. Maybe this was a budget flaw which limited spending on props costumes and PD cars representing other agencies, but it seems odd for Crawford and his troopers to be lone rangers solving all the crime regardless of which jurisdiction they are in.
