Thank god for this episode in a series which seems to have been reduced to an animation showcase that offers little more than puerile toilet humour and gore. Love + Death + Robots used to have something to say, but not anymore it seems bar this episode. Not since Felidae's Francis, to which along with T. S. Elliot this may owe a debt, have I been so interested in the adventures of a cat, it is of course in part down to the chamber music fitting for the period in which it's set, but also a sort of authenticity that feels like it is borrowed from sort of historic cautionary tale. It is both very odd and very good, strangely enough the illustration and animation style is the least showcasey of the lot, but not inappropriate. I would like to watch more of Goeffrey's adventure's.

Based on the reviews, I went into this film with decreased expectations. I am happy to say that it exceeded them and then some. Some are saying this is a bait and switch others are saying that it isn't a horror at all. If being alone in the dark, facing an unknown force with only primitive weapons isn't horror, then I don't know what is? Others are comparing it to Prey, but the similarities are both cosmetic and superficial This is a tense, well acted, masterfully shot survival horror/thriller with both a twist and a message that whilst not too subtle absolutely nails the landing. The cinematographer behind the infamous Game of Thrones night-time battle should be taking notes from this film, because it expertly uses the darkness to elevate threat without completely obscuring the action. Although you couldn't really call it music the sound track really elevates the tension and the made up language adds to the authenticity. All in all a very competent and compelling film.

Nor do I fully understand all of the science, however I understand enough to know the creators have done their homework and that what is transpiring on screen is entirely plausible so far.

The casting is excellent, the acting is top notch and while it seems the space scenes are largely behind us by episode 4 they were at the time cinematic quality with great SFX on a par with Gravity, and the suspense is palpable.

Yes, the pacing is somewhat leisurely, but I personally wouldn't have it any other way, this is not Marvel fayre.

I've read other reviews that compared this to The Cloverfield Paradox, and if that's what they were expecting, I understand why they are disappointed, but IMO the two are only comparable at an elevator pitch level, despite sharing a severed arm and an experiment in space that's where the similarities end.

Beyond that, I can only imagine that like Caldera's particle, this show is being observed in different states simultaneously by different viewers.
