The story dragged and surely could have been fewer than 8 episodes. Also, having been a DC resident, I found the frequent references to Ben's Chili Bowl and mumbo sauce tiring-like they were trying too hard to show the parts of DC not near the White House or Capitol. But it came off as corny and trite. And for a crime-fighter with a PhD in psychology, Cross's lack of self-awareness was also tiring. The racial dynamics weren't developed seriously and the serial killer (with all his wealth and prominence) wasn't believable. Even so, the kids were good and it was a decent cop drama. TheAnd at least it's not Tyler Perry!
What a magnificent story. I have rarely seen something so well done. I have not read the books, but I wound up looking up the author because this was such a compelling drama.
I have visited Italy once in my life, but have no particular connection to the Italian people. I'm not even sure what drew me to this in the first place. But I am so glad that I watched! There is so much about this story that is riveting. It is hard to review 34 episodes in a few paragraphs. I don't want to rehash the plots, but this was masterful storytelling. The acting was fantastic - even the children. The main characters start out as children, but then have children of their own later on, and those kids are really good actors also. Perhaps I was attracted to the story because the characters are just a little older than I am, and I could see my life a bit in theirs, even though we live on different continents.
The scenery, the cinematography, the way they captured life throughout the decades was astounding. I hope lots of people get to see this. I'm going to tell people about it because it really was an amazing series.
Enjoy!
