One of the best episodes of Dexter in general. Original Sin is the only season that feels as coherent and as well thought out as the first season. And this episode shows all of it so well. It still does the best thing possible with the family dynamics, as well as focusing on the overall story AND keeping the fan service as rewarding without being too much or nonsensical. Loved all of this episode, can't wait for the last two. I personally only bother with reviews if I really really loved the episode, and this was the case so much that its crazy. Can't recommend this enough, and I already did to 5 people.
As any Ghibli Studios movie, The Boy And The Heron tries, and fully succeeds at making you feel like a child, watching a beautiful touching fairytale. Miyazaki, known for his critically acclaimed movies loved by people all over the world, has once again proved he can make great movies consistently.
The concept of the movie might not be as original. But the perspective and creativity that follows the whole story are perfect. Seeing a child actively trying to hide from the fact that his mother is gone and replaced by his aunt makes for a really compelling story.
Every single frame looks great. Ghibli Studios animation tends to be repetitive, but here it's not the case, as they doubled down on making every frame more colourful and detailed.
Except for the Bird King, every character is very well utilised and used to their full potential.
Anime fairytale might not strike most people at first sight, but Miyazaki is more than "another movie writer." Every single one of his movies makes for a really well put together and compelling watch, and I truly believe that this is his magnum opus.
