Overall a decent adaptation, excellent job on the parts they chose to stay close to the source. It is nearly verbatim from the book. I understand the decision to change some of the characters, my issue is the dialog, I don't know anyone who literally drops profanity every other word. These are supposed to be the geniuses of our time? I don't know Marines who talk like that.
Some of the structure of the story is different, I'm interested to see how it works. Honestly it seemed like their last show fell apart when they no longer had the source material to use, probably a brilliant move by GRR to not tie himself to it.

First, I don't mind the casting, the only person that is important to stay "true" to the stories is Rand and he is accurate to the books.
What makes this bad is the writing, while "The Eye of the World's" pacing is slow at some times, they managed to make it crawl. The deviations from the source material make no sense especially in regards to the whole story. It almost seems that they either did not read the entire series, or they did not really plan to last past season 2 or 3.
If your goal was to appeal to non-readers it seems that most of the reviews feel the same way.
The source deviations feel very forced to hit some intersectional check marks, which is frustrating because it directly contradicts events that occur in the future.
If they do get in to later seasons, I don't know how they redeem some of the secondary characters that play a role, for storylines that were changed for no apparent reason.
I'm not sure what these writers, showrunners have worked on before, but I can't imagine it was good, this is a mess, they are obviously not fans of the original material, they are probably trying to find the next GOT, but the lesson they have not learned is GOT stayed relatively true to the book for the first few seasons,
