With the newest addition of the Superman to the newly lead James Gunn DC cinematic universe, Marvel needed a new hit now more then ever. Marvel has not been the same since Endgame only making a handful of decent/good films since then. With DC on the rise you can tell Marvel is beginning to panic. This film was good, very solid and definitely one of the greater films to come out of Marvel studios in a while. That being said it also wasn't "Fantastic."
Positives: The film had a pretty good storyline, with a star studded cast. Overall everyone in the cast played their role extremely well, even the controversial addition of a female silver surfer played by Julia Garner was a very good casting choice. The family dynamic's from the team were awesome and I think each actor understood their character and their traits very well.
I really appreciate the plot of this film and it's pacing. I like the themes around human triumph and worldwide collaboration.
Villain: I think where the film potentially misses out is on the stakes. Galactus is an awesome villain with larger then life stakes. The film, in my opinion, doesn't do a good enough job selling those stakes to me. Galactus wasn't given enough time to become terrifying. To the average viewer who's never read a comic book, Galactus doesn't seem too terrifying. He needed more screen-time and more scenes devoted to showing his god-like strength and terror.
Character Development: I also think it would have been nice to delve more into the characters themselves, Especially that of Ben Grimm (The Thing). I think his themes of depression, loneliness, and self-image issues we see in the comics, would've made for an incredible character arc in the film. However, I know these themes might have not pair well with this film's intended image.
Box office: Sadly this film did not do as well as Marvel had hoped for their newest blockbuster film, being over-shadowed by Superman. Superman being a bigger name with a larger fanbase and IP, of course would generate more money and views. It's an unfortunate timing they were released in the same month, otherwise I feel this film would've done better.
Overall A good film with solid action, good casting choices, a feasible plot with not so many plot holes, and a solid message. A solid 8.0 is a justified rating.

I want to preface this review by saying this was a good and entertaining film. I believe this was a good first step for DC under newly appointed James Gunn.
Some Positives: The Film had a much needed superman facelift from the previous Zach Snyder rendition. Putting away with the serious, stoic, angry, and darker superman for a more hopeful and bright superman. James Gunn and David did a remarkable job portraying superman/Clark Kent. Actually one of the very big positives from this movie was the casting choices across the board. Whether it was Louis lane, Lex Luthor, Clarks Parents, or even Krypto. The casting choices were very strong. The action was exciting, the visuals were bright and clean (in most cases). The comedy (while too much) was for the most part funny.
Negatives: So what kept it from being an excellent movie. Well first off the movie was too unserious. In classic James Gunn fashion there was never really a brake from the jokes. The only serious scene was the interview between Clark and Louis. The rest of the movie was battered with jokes (I'll be the first to admit some were very funny) and were never really given any brake to allow good acting to shine through. It's one thing to have comedic moments to break the ice, but when you never allow the ice to build it can be hard to watch. This is not always the case with Gunn though because he did an incredible job with this for Guardian of the Galaxy Vol.3, balancing serious with comedic effect.
Another crucial error and classic James Gunn blunder is the Pace/Plot. In Superman we find that the story tends to feel all over the place at times and doesn't flow naturally. The Pace of a Gunn movie always feel too fast, he never allows for a slow moment. Slowing down a scene helps build tension/drama and allows for the actors to fully utilize their acting abilities.
Conclusion: With everything in mind, Superman is a great step in the right direction for the new DC universe headed by Gunn. However, if this new path is to find success I believe Gunn needs to work on his flaws or delegate future movies to other directors to get their stylistic choices. Still a fun and action packed movie. Overall I'd give the movie a 7.8/10.

One of the more interesting fantasy shows I watched in recent years. I loved the interesting take on elves and their long lives. How the long life of an elf would create a human disconnect to others. The character development is awesome especially for Frieren and her journey. I also loved the perspective of the story being after the grand quest to defeat the demon king. An almost backwards story-telling at first, setting up the current journey, slowly gathering new party members. The fight scenes are incredibly animated and smooth. The environment is gorgeous and the characters are compelling. The world-building was perfectly paced and keeps the audience wanting to learn more. I cannot wait for the next season.
A must watch for any fantasy fans, 9.4/10.
