I was pleasantly surprised by this movie. It's pretty well paced and solidly acted. Ashley Greene and Shawn Ashmore are decent, I enjoyed Juno Rinaldi as the comic relief.
There are a couple of well executed jump scares and some decent tension.
There's nothing groundbreaking in this movie and there are some tropes and cliches that might make some shake their heads. I don't like hereditary clairvoyance and I don't like the ease with which both a doctor and a police detective threw out their professional standards as plot devices.
All that said, the third act is a kind of insidious-inception mashup that worked pretty well and I enjoyed the questions the movie asked about the lengths a grieving parent might go to.
Overall. Quite enjoyable.

First edit after 2 episodes:
Seen some hate for this. Do not understand.
First two episodes have been very good indeed. Firstly the production is fantastic. It's stylish and feels like the result of a huge budget. The space craft (the maginot) is entirely in keeping with the feel and style of the nostromo and the crew felt like the nostromo crew too.
I like the inclusion of corporate competition to wayland-yutani. That makes perfect sense to me and I enjoy the fact that there are other creatures besides the xenomorphs (that's clear from the trailer so isn't a spoiler). I never understood why there were no references to any other alien life forms in the OG movies.
The cast is good and Sydney Chandler has started very strong.
The hybrid synthetics is an interesting idea and it seems a reasonable leap as part of that corporate competition. I also like the comparisons with Peter Pan and the lost boys although not very subtle.
Don't get me wrong, it isn't perfect. There's a couple of huge questions about why the ship wasn't detected before crashing and why prodigy would send a team of children. There's also a bit of a bugbear of mine where you see a movie monster or killer dispatch a room full of side characters in seconds but when they attack a main character, decide to slow down and toy with them, thus allowing time for an ex machina escape. That said it is really great to see a xenomorph going mental. Quite a lot of xeno kills have been off screen throughout the franchise.
Speaking of; the xenomorph looks fantastic. A little less slimy with a bit more of a leathery, matte look. I thought it was great.
Super exited to see how this all pans out but for me, this has been a fantastic start.
Second edit after 4 episodes: Much less satisfied now. The introduction of other alien species has so far gone nowhere. We've seen the eye alien a couple of times and still learned nothing about the flies or the plant thing. The kids are getting annoying now and the naivety and childish nature is starting to feel ridiculous.
The kid in change or prodigy is super annoying and I think is just building up to a satisfying death.
The xenomorph language being introduced is an interesting idea but not really fitting. In "resurrection" they seemed to communicate in hisses and in "aliens" there were strong hints of telepathic communication. I am confused at this idea.
Production has remained strong but so far it feels like alien island might have been a better title.
After what was a strong and intriguing start It's reasonable to expect a mid season lull. Episode 4 was certainly that and the second half of the season needs to step up.

Although this looks like a summer camp slasher, it certainly Is not.
Instead it is a very entertaining horror, sci fi with some really good characters and some absolutely fantastic child acting.
"Doink" played by Max Malas is excellent and I suspect has a very bright future and our lead played by Kue Lawrence is also superb.
The plot had me guessing for a while and I think it worked although I understand it may not be everyone's cup of tea. The final twist was interesting and eludes to a pretty grim immediate future for those involved.
Overall I thought the premise was good and the movie was pretty well put together. With elements of stranger things, black mirror and infinity pool, director Daniel DelPurgatorio has created a nicely paced, intelligent and entertaining movie.
