Too many actors chewing out poor Southern accents in a long (thereby mostly incomprehensible) movie not without a few decent and some good scenes, one with Donald Sutherland and the female lead, some (but not all) with Brendan Gleeson,including some of his fiddle playing.
N K simpers through it and gets to voice over excruciating lines; Renee Zellweger gurns incomprehensibly; Kathy Baker is good; the local baddies are one note; Natalie Portman is good but again borderline incomprehensible; Cillian Murphy shows up briefly (comprehensible). Jude Law is good. The music soundtrack is cliched, the script poor. It does show the horrors of war on many levels, and maybe this is why it scores better with other people.
