We live in a world with a vast number of news outlets both mainstream and online. Anybody who is not asleep has a good idea of the way government runs. This series is so totally preposterous it's untrue. Suranne Jones is totally unbelievable as a British prime minister. We have her full range of a grimaces throughout this torturous mess as she tries to cope with a kidnap of her husband. The French president pays more visits to Downing Street than the milkman and we're supposed to believe that the press don't notice. In most episodes, there are some laugh out loud moments as the nonsensical script evolves. One has to allow a certain amount of dramatic license in productions like this, but this one is really taking the Micky. If you take any interest at all in current affairs, you will be offended by this unrealistic drivel.
There's nothing like a good police drama series - and this is nothing like a good police drama series. I don't know where to begin really. It's contrived arch, self-indulgent and utterly unconvincing. This technique of the lead detective sharing her thoughts of the camera is just dreadful beyond words. The dialogue is also pathetic. It's cliched trying so hard to be gritty, it just becomes a pale pastiche of a police crime drama series. I am normally a great fan of Nicola Walker, but her talents are sadly wasted with this pile of effluent.. How this ever got be on the commissioning stage is utterly beyond me .
I only reented this on Amazon as I like the scenario and I'm a big fan of Kelsey Grammer. I wasn't expecting much but when it came to viewing it I can seldom remember being so bored.the script is leaden and cliched and the director clearly felt compelled to pad the feeble lines out with scenes so slow I thought the film was running at half speed. The whole story could have been told in half the time and it would still be rubbish. Terrible waste of the acting talent in the movie. I actually felt sorry for Grammer, Nicholas Jones and Caroline Quentin for having to utter some of the dullest dialogue ever devised.
