I had to see what all the hype was about after hearing that Kevin sold out stadiums for this, so I was quite excited when Netflix released it. Viewer beware - this is not a comedy. It should be in a different Netflix category "Stand-up Advice". I get that comedy is subjective and I may be in the minority in this review, but it is a fact that there were less than 5 jokes told in the first 20 minutes of this show. I'm so glad the show sold out in my city before I was able to waste money on tickets. I guess it was somewhat expected, as I do not enjoy Kevin Hart's movie roles either. My comedy taste for context: I love Chapelle, Chris Rock, Nikki Glaser, Bill Burr and Ricky Gervais. Did not find funny: Eddie Murphy, Amy Schumer, Joe Rogan.
Comedy is very subjective, so I totally see why some would not enjoy a comedy special focussed exclusively on the topic of sex. I didn't enjoy any of Kevin Hart's standup. Literally did not laugh once through 20 minutes of each of them - which is why I stopped watching after 20 minutes. But many people really enjoyed it, so who am I to discredit their tastes? If sex makes you uncomfortable or you have experienced sexual trauma in your life, be warned that Bangin' will offend you at some point. If that happens early on, it will set the tone for the rest of the show, so I would suggest you cut your losses. As a 40 year old married man, this was one of my favorite stand-ups on Netflix. Just when you think it can't get any raunchier, Nikki finds another notch on the dial. Yes, some of the humour is not new, but her delivery, sincerity and personalization of it is genius. I will always be a fan of Nikki after this.
