This episode was just as, if not BETTER than episode 6. EP6 + 7 of this second season are up there comparable to the greatness of EP6 + 7 of the first season.
Yet another masterpiece of an episode from this anime, both from a production and narrative standpoint. They somehow managed to adapt 9 chapters into a single episode with great pacing as well. Kenpachi vs Gremmy embodies the essence of BLEACH. Kenpachi, who became THE embodiment of a Shinigami-the embodiment of death-after taking the title of THE Kenpachi after his beautiful battle with Yachiru Unohana the First Kenpachi. And Gremmy - The Visionary - who takes the ethereal nature of the fights in this series to their utmost extreme with his power to turn fantasy into reality. Once again, great character dynamics here, with the two thoughtfully juxtaposing each other in multi-layered ways. Aside from being an audiovisual masterstroke, the whole fight is essentially one big thematic execution with a symbolically poetic ending. Beautiful character development for Kenpachi, foreshadowing for Yachiru and characterization for Gremmy.
I AM THE EDGE.

What an utterly disappointing sequence of episodes from this anime. I can't take the humiliation anymore, so I just had to write a review for this episode.
One Piece never had any deep themes, world and characters to begin with and its biggest appeal was always its light-hearted, goofy fun. But Gear 5 is what happens when it leans into that at the cost of literally every storytelling element by 100%. Luffy gets a deus-ex-machina a**pull that retcons his entire character reminiscent of Naruto turning out to be the reincarnation of a ninja god whilst destroying any tension in the story, and this episode is that in "full play".
Aside from the atrocious writing, the production value is also embarrassing. Godawful direction, reused and stylistically inconsistent animation and ugly CGI.
I am starting to see why every other fandom despises us, we overhype everything Oda does and call it "peak fiction" while downplaying everything else. Then we end up making a fool of ourselves. These last two episodes were humbling and it's only gonna get worse I fear...

THIS is what the Gear 5 episodes should have looked like: State-of-the-art direction, compositing, art, animation, SFX, sound design, voice-acting, pacing, etc etc. This is what an actual "peak masterpiece" of an episode looks like, and you can tell BLEACH TYBW is a passion project because the staff made sure to ooze that in every second of their work. After week in and week out of disappointment and humiliation from the overhyped and soulless cash-grabbing episodes of One Piece, I decided to catch up with BLEACH and I was NOT disappointed. Peak shounen and best of the Big 3 material right here.
An absolutely beautiful character arc and Bankai for Rukia and an incredible character in As Nodt which Studio Pierrot utterly nailed in capturing the terror of; and even Byakuya got extra character development here with his Shikai-Bankai twist. Such unique and creative abilities with engaging dialogue and character dynamics.
I am absolutely repulsed at all the One Piece fans downvoting this episode out of envy. I can see why we One Piece fans are the punching bags and laughingstocks of the anime community, and I am no longer mad at Attack on Titan fans for creating hundreds of accounts to downvote us. BLEACH is such a sophisticated, sleek and beautiful work of art and as a One Piece fan, I'm jealous of how much Bleachads are winning haha!
