It feels like we've treaded this path before. Apocalyptic event strikes, people start fighting over resources, "humanity was the real villain all along." I'll admit I stopped after 4 episodes since the mystery of the world wasn't quite enough to grip me and the main characters were compelling enough to convince me to stay. The characters are often needlessly confrontational and don't seem to think anything through. A lot of the drama seems to stem from these supposed "friends" not having the ability to simply express their grievances.

The sci-fi aspect is also kind of dumb. A single snowflake touching you kills you instantly? Perhaps it's more like magic, which is fine, but when it's veiled under the guise of sci-fi, it comes off as just a little silly.

Not a bad show, just now what I was hoping for.

They need to do what The Office US did and rewrite the characters for season 2. Everyone likes to forget how bad The Office US SE1 was received when it released and even now people often recommend to skip the first season.

The first episode of The Office AU is bad. Very bad. It feels like a fan made episode. It did get better as the show went on and the but it's still not great, however, I did get a good laugh in at 2 or 3 jokes (which isn't great for 8 episodes)

There are two primary problems they need to fix:

1. Stop trying to be The Office US: There is the Michael character, the Dwight character, the Pam, and the Jim. Greta (Pam) even has a rocky relationship with her partner and has a thing for Nick (Jim) and the two have zero chemistry and aren't very likeable. Jim hated his job, and Pam didn't want to just be a receptionist, but neither Nick or Greta have anything else going on except their forced relationship. Make a new antory, don't retread the same path.

2. Caricatures vs characters: This is TV, so clearly these are not real people. They're supposed to be characters, but also feel real enough like I could meet them in real life. Many of the characters in this feel too outlandish and too silly. Hannah (Michael) is way over the top and don't really have any redeemable qualities. We feel bad for Michael when he gets picked on at Chili's during the Dundee's, I can't think of anything redeemable about Hannah. Lizzie (Dwight) gets better as the show goes on, but is just a little too quirky.

I actually loved the supporting characters though, like Lloyd, Stevie, the HR guy, the intern, Deborah, the corporate woman, they're all good and were usually my favourite part of the show. When your main 4 characters are the worst ones in the show though... fix it.

I'm hopeful for season two though. That's when most comedy shows tend to hit their stride and with some tweaking, I think this could be a solid show.

The trailers played this movie up as a prediction of what could come given the current political climate in the US. That's clearly not what the director and writer were going for, which made a lot of people feel betrayed. I feel like Alex Garland tried too hard not to mention Amy kind of politics though, so much so that we don't even know why Cali and Texas separated.

Either way, the story follows the characters on their journey to somewhere dangerous. At the end of the movie, for no particular reason, the main character makes the most braindead decision ever, then makes an even stupider decision that not only doesn't align with her character or motivations, doesn't follow any kind of logic. I was scratching my head, not because I disagreed with the character's decision, but because it simply didn't make sense. And then the movie ended 120 seconds later.

Very bizarre.

I can see what the movie was trying to do, but it did it exceptionally poorly to the point of bewilderment and how they thought what they made work.
