I was thinking about what this show kind of reminds of when it comes to writing, and that show is Euphoria. Euphoria right now is going through what I believe is the problem with Yellowstone, and that is too much freedom for just one writer. Let me give you an example (with a major spoiler from another show, so if you're watching it at the same time I advice you to skip this part): in breaking bad, Vince Gilligan originally wanted Walter to kill Jane, why was it changed? Because his writers room agreed his original version was maybe a bit too much, so after discussion they made some changes and got the brilliant scene we know today. Euphoria and Yellowstone don't have writers rooms, so both great shows with insane peaks and potential make incredible poor writing choices because the writer doesn't have anyone telling them "you know, maybe that's not a good idea? What if instead we...", characters are not going anywhere because we've let one guy handle everything and all in all just weak writing. Even in creative endeavors, our work improves with a team behind us. Yellowstone deserves better. Never forget the importance of a good writers room, there's a great chance your favorite piece of media had a talented one carrying it on their shoulders.

I really like this show, im hooked, but why do I feel like nothing's really moved forward from the first episodes? What I specifically mean is the character arcs. It's getting really boring seeing Jamie being the punching bad of this show, Beth being the chaotic tornado that wrecks everything and then goes "oh sowy *tear eyed emoji*" and all is forgiven, Kayce straight up going away for a subplot that, again, will go nowhere with "the heir" thing that I thought was set up for him from the get go, and John just... I don't know. When I first started watching I thought this show filled a space that Succession left when it ended, but that show really had the feeling that no matter what happened there was an end goal, with character development and growth. This show, I don't know where it's going.

I think it ultimately boils down to the fact that the guy with the best arc of the whole show... is Jimmy, and what does that say about our main characters?
