Gonna start by saying that i was worried going into this. Adventure Time is truly like no other show, and they could've easily abandoned what made it so special for a wide variety of reasons. But they stuck to the end, with this wonderfully weird, vague, and oddly paced style to make (in my opinion) the best season. With Adventure Time clearly being in the right hands I hope we can get new content far into the future.
That said, one thing at the end was really dumb. Far from ruining the finale (even the very best animated finale has dumb stuff after all), but man they really should've left it out, the plot would've BARELY been affected.

Adventure Time has always staunchly stuck to having major culminations of events be anticlimactic; I'm sure we remember the time where the world was ending, and Jake was rapping with God Jr. In a hot tub with the whole thing on mute. And even for the finale, they stick to that. Major plot beats are resolved in seconds, no one ends up actually fighting anything, and the show straight up makes fun of you for thinking major changes would happen to the status quo.
And its captivating, despite the lightning pacing the emotions wash over you, the characters have truly satisfying conclusions to their arcs, and you're left to analyze the shows final, possibly most fascinating mysteries (at least until Fionna and Cake).
Although you do have to jive with Adventure Times truly odd style of storytelling (past its first few episodic seasons) to really jive with it, though if you don't then why are you even here?

Of course, before we get into it, it still has all the trappings of an early episode of a cartoon. If I'm being honest its more like a 7 due to some really weird pacing, though when you compare it to other first episodes i think its fair to bump it up.
Anyways, I'm glad they breezed through the introductions. We all know Superman is a farm boy, works with Luz..I mean Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen at the daily planet (for real they act so similar its a bit uncanny), and is from Krypton which is kinda cooked.
The show quickly establishes its own unique tone, doing a good job of mixing humor and serious situations. And a lot of shows have been doing it these past few years, though this is distinct from say, Owl House or Infinity Train
They did a pretty good job with Clarks motivation to become Superman here, this time its more about him discovering himself than just the typical "With great power comes great responsibility".
Only real complaint is they do the whole liar revealed trope, though if they had to do it for Lois (which it does make sense for her character), then its a good idea to get it out of the way as early as possible.
Also the animation is great, though that looks to be the norm for Adult Swim serialized cartoons.
