Ransom Canyon starts off at a measured pace, introducing you to a cast of small-town characters and the wide-open Texas landscape they live in. At first, I thought it might be a little too slow, but by the second episode the drama really starts to take shape. In fact, once you get past the first episode it very quickly moves into the story and is very interesting.
While the cowboy hats, ranch life, and rugged scenery might make you think of Yellowstone, this is not Yellowstone. It's gentler in tone, more about relationships and community bonds than power plays and backstabbing. The tension here simmers rather than explodes, which makes the emotional payoffs more satisfying when they do happen. Yellowstone is much more high energy and explosive drama, but it matches the story. But so does this. This pace of storytelling matches the story and the setting.
The strength of this series is in its layered storytelling - the mix of romance, mystery, and personal struggles all woven together with a strong sense of place. It's not just about one central plot; it's about a whole community, which makes you want to keep watching to see how everyone's stories connect.
The pacing may not be for those looking for instant fireworks, but if you enjoy character-driven drama with emotional payoffs and plenty of scenic charm, Ransom Canyon delivers. I can't wait for the next season. Before I knew it I was already on episode 7 and felt I was on episode 3. This show has a lot of opportunity to really develop the character arcs over a few seasons. Looking forward to what's to come.

I watch this whenever I can. I'm an absolute sucker for those old school action/martial arts films. Sasha is brilliant and totally underrated as an actor. I adore him. He's exactly why I even watched this franchise because while I appreciate Van Damme, there's just too much going on there. Sasha is a much more humble and natural fighter and actor. Yes the film has dodgy music but what movie from this time didn't?! If you love having something to watch, a surprisingly feel good movie with typical archetypes, then this is a must watch.
I mean I love Eric Bana and Sam Neill, so I would've watched this even if it wasn't good. The only thing I didn't like was the American accents, but not because they weren't good. Because as an Aussie I'm just so used to hearing them both in their natural accent and so the American accent threw me on Bana. Neill's accent dropped every so often but it wasn't distracting. I loved the storyline. It was an excellent story and fantastic plot twist.
