Love Spanish series for original stories, great actors, vitality, locations, realistic psychologism. Spanish TV always brings real-life passion , ignites the mind .
Edem - surpassed my expectations. It was hard to get away from the intense dynamics of plot. The second season is more compact, even more engaging.
The film is somewhat about our common totalitarian future. In a closed militarised community, a pair of leaders of a pseudo-apocalyptic cult break the will of selected young people, force them out, enslave them physically and psycho violently. In a way, it reminded me of the pioneer camps in red Soviet Union, where everybody was subjected to similar ideological and superior coercion, even terror. The island's leaders even outwardly resemble Russian types.
It shows how traumatised, lonely or marginalised young people become easy prey for the violent, human exploitation systems of corporations, sects, terrorist groups.
Vivid characters, ;excellent acting, adventurous plot with lifelike, Spanish rough battles for survival against slavery in a dictatorship. Like a textbook of modern life, the opposite of Hollywood's embellished, copy-paste fairy tales.

It's a terrible film, don't waste your time. Unless you want to ignite a fervent love of life. That's the positive kind of love and beauty of life you'll feel when you escape from grey negative necrophilic rubbish into fresh air. The kind of rubbish that alternative young film festivals reward for some reason.
I was fooled by awards at Gothenburg and Sundance. Apparently, their juries are full of necrophiliacs who like that dung packaged in quality mystic images.
It is not art, but a suggestive imitation of art form without any content or message. It is not a meditation, as in philosophical meditations of Tsai Ming-liang ( Taiwan), with his magic half-hour-long shots.
It is a primitive screen adaptation of a good book, where the focus is not on the idea, the content, but more on enjoying the halloween make-up of excavated dead. It's obvious that film director has worked in advertising. There is no meaning behind empty showy images, only a desire to shock the viewers.
I was fighting boredom in the cinema and thinking how to make something more watchable out of this rubbish. Talented director could make a better story with these great actors in a more suitable location. Maybe about how tragically grieving relatives seem to psychologically dig up their dead loved ones and live with them in same apartment. Embraced in a spiritual, not a material reality.
It could have been film about the isolating depressive states of a pandemic, when the stagnation of living ones was little different from that of dead. Sadly, the film is not about something more interesting. It is about nothing .

A simple but not bad thriller. Suspenseful atmosphere, mesmerising visuals, modern interiors and Alex Heffes' haunting music will satisfy the tastes of the most discerning art house aesthetes. I've added a composer to my play list.
The film's plot and action equilibristics reminded me of legendary thrillers of 90s. I liked the screenwriter's irony of the Gestaltists. They are capable of rescuing unoriented, helpless girls. But they are powerless to see the strong dark rooms of the abusers and are easily manipulated.
There is a lot of irony in other details too. It turns out that the head of the family is now the one who controls the home alarm panel. In the past, it was the TV remoter as more important stick of power :))) .
I have downgraded the rating. It's already clear from the beginning who is guilty and what will happen. The film evoked a lot of strong emotions, and undermined classic fears. Thanks to a team of talented filmmakers.
