It took 13 episodes, but Futurama has made an episode with not only a great idea, but great execution and great comedic timing as well! The jokes were better than ever, the plot was really good, and sort of sci-fi, and even the voice acting felt better this time around. It really hooked me on the mystery of what this guy, whatever his name was, wanted to accomplish, and his mysterious abilities. The only thing I have left to complain about is that I'm not really catching any of the in-depth sci-fi elements of the original and CC seasons, but that could be due to new writers who have less academic experience. Anyways, great episode!
Wow, this one was good! Don't get me wrong, it wasn't PERFECT, but I think this is, by far, the best paced and funniest episode since the reboot. It seemed, from the title, that it would be a relatively soulless tie in to the Squid Game show, but they really went above and beyond to make this one its own thing. The comedy is also getting better and better, and I found myself enjoying this one's jokes a lot. Tonally, I don't think it will ever be the exact same as either the originals or the CC episodes, but that's ok. It's a different decade, and there are different writers. I think this one will be remembered more fondly in the future than today. Plus, the ending was incredible! The only real problem that I got peeved by was the ad breaks, and how they stop the flow of the episode, despite there not even being ads for this show. Either put ads in, or stop breaking the pacing. Anyways, great episode!
Honestly, I do have a problem with all these extremely topical episodes. Everything centering around pop culture in the original run featured mainly timeless references and science based references. Now we have... short lived internet trends. Wow. It doesn't help that they used almost exclusively talking to explain the workings of the blockchain. Like, you couldn't have thought of a nice visual representation for the system? That's kind of what animation specializes in. BUT, the humor and plot took a big step up this episode compared to the previous season. Still not OG levels of hilarious, but they're getting there. Decent episode.
P. S. Please, writers of Futurama, if you read this, I need to tell you that it's ok to let a joke simmer a little bit before the punchline. Don't rush your jokes!
