Salem's Lot adds nothing to the already saturated vampire horror genre-unless you count a reminder that atmosphere, tension, and character development still matter. The film is filled with familiar actors doing what they can with overdone stereotypical character archetypes and at times painful dialogue that goes nowhere.
It's unclear how this ended up with an R rating. Any moment that might approach horror is either cut short or softened to the point of irrelevance. If this was Fandango's most anticipated horror release, expectations were clearly low.
The tone lands somewhere between dark fantasy and a made-for-TV drama, with none of the weight or dread that vampire horror relies on. In a subgenre that's already overcrowded, this one doesn't even try to stand out.
It's watchable, technically, but that's about all. If you're looking for something that actually understands what makes vampire stories work-try Nosferatu. This one's just background noise.

There were definitely certain parts that were decent scares. For a low budget short, the scares are shot and edited well. Keeps a good on edge tension throughout the movie. The plot could have been executed in a way that engaged the viewer more and added to the intensity. The ending was a little lackluster and could've benefited from a final scare. Good if you're looking for a short that will leave you a little creeped out and impressed with the level of scary you can reach in a 10 minute video. For what it is, it's definitely worth checking out and you'll likely get one or two good spooks...especially if you're not a regular horror watcher.
