As for the reviewers who are saying this film isn't faithful to history: I've read Gibbon four times, Plutarch, Tacitus, and many others. I would venture I've read more ancient history than 99% of the people reviewing this film. Yes, Ridley Scott took some liberties, but the spirit and feel of this film are quite faithful to the period. This is an empire clearly in decline. Rome looks noticeably grittier, dirtier, and even more corrupt than the previous film. The visuals, music, and subtle images are beautiful. It's the little things, such as an ibis landing on a rhino, a pet monkey dressed in a Roman tunic, that make this movie so rich. Ridley Scott was attentive to those little things and it makes for a quality film.
If you're burnt out on Pedro Pascal, his role in this is relatively minor. Paul Mescal is a worthy lead and delivers a great performance, as does Denzel Washington.
Some reviewers are satisfying themselves by giving this film a 1. That's ludicrous and just shows they aren't honest about writing a serious review. One reviewer called this more of a companion than a sequel. I think that's a good way of describing it.

Even for a series of films which aim relatively low, this was a disappointment. And I say this as someone who liked the last one. They introduce a story which has no relation at all to the previous films. Bad editing. Bad acting. Tom Hardy barely even acts in this film. You'd be forgiven for forgetting why people loved him so much and were exited to see him in the first installment. Not to mention he looks older and bloated. The story is ridiculous, cliched and ultimately forgettable. The action scenes are few. Explosions are always perfectly-sized in order to destroy what needs to be gone and leave everything else intact. There's a lot of characters explaining what's happening since it makes so little sense. A wasted opportunity to tell the story of a popular comic book character.
The thing which made 'Fury Road' great was that it was one long action sequence. This film is nothing like that. In fact there's scarcely a major road battle in it. What a disappointment! And to rub salt in the would they charged twenty-five bucks to stream it. I suppose they charged so much to try to recover what they lost at the box office. But no one wants to pay so much for a movie like this.
Chris Hemsworth is excellent as Dementus. That's the best thing I can say about it. The rest of the characters, and the designs, OK I guess. About what you would expect from a Mad Max film. But I can't escape the feeling this was a money grab. And they play scenes from the last movie during the credits for some reason.... I'm bewildered.
