I immediatley enjoyed this movie from the moment Weaver and Edgerton were talking together on the porch, when Weaver talked there was an audible hissing. I can only imagine they didn't get a good capture of her voice for some reason and had to do with what they had. Did they spend all there cash on getting Sigourney Weaver and then had to skimp on other stuff? Some of the shots were blurry at the edges, loved that, probably the lenses they used. I liked the filming and the sound and the fact that it was a bit rough.
As for the story, I thought it was a little weak. It could have developed more the main character, I didn't quite believe his love and knowledge of gardening. Where did he train?
The Weaver character was good, funny. The great niece could also have been a little more believable.
All in all not a bad movie, had its moments, looked like it the director probably had his work cut out, so well done that man!

A most excellent movie ! Thoroughly enjoyed it. For sure there were many layers and implicit meanings I missed but that is also what made this film so intriguing. The contrast between the mountain town in Iran and the city in Turkey, all the details, the character extras that clearly showed the cultural differences, I loved that. The border, the trafficking that was implied, the faithfulness to truth of the central actor who is also the director. It's also a movie that celebrates movie making, how storytelling prevails in film, the impact of a story upon the storyteller. It´s a very poignant movie.
Wonderful footage in a documentary style, great story, amazing insight into life on the frontier.
Well worth seeing.

Sort of documentary style filming, lots of camera movement and close ups. Beautifully filmed, although I'd have liked more panoramics of the extraordinary Basque countryside.
I didn't really enjoy the story, although the interaction between the protagonist and his Grandmother and Great Aunt I enjoyed, I´d have milked that more. You don't need to go into gender to create interesting and deep relationships, I wasn't sure if he was a boy or a girl, for me it didn't matter, I just enjoy seeing relationships unfolding, Good movie.but I'd have enjoyed it more if gender hadn't been the main drive of it..
