Siobhan and Kathryn Kelly are usually sign of a good solid watch. God knows what went on with this. I watched a few episodes then just gave up as it was just so bad. The storyline was just full of plot holes and was as clunky as Siobhans gait(get her out of those shoes now). The 'action' scenes were so bad that they were funny and I couldnt stop thinking Cruella De Ville every time Kathryn Kellys character appeared with her devious iciness and penetrating gaze. With a few intended comedy moments, I think that this could have worked as a sort of genre send-up like Airplane, but sorry, it was impossible to take seriously as drama.
I have watched this entire series and found it gripping and depressing in equal measure. The way it was filmed draws you right into the story and the performances were phenomenal. Every character was believable and the unfolding of the story was well-paced. The stand-out performances for me was Ashley Walters, Stephen Graham and Owen Peters as his son. I liked the depth of how the story explored the effect of a single senseless act of violence, its germination and consequences. I think that the only criticism I would have is that sadly the victim just remained a 'dead girl' and there was not an episode focused on her familys suffering to give the series a sense of balance. Show the destruction on the family of the victim too. We found out a lot about Jamie, his potential, good grades etc, but what about the life that was gone for ever? In episode 2 her friend spoke positively about her but that was it. Any other reference to her seemed to be in the vein that she was a 'b***h' and a bully. Nevertheless, that said, I thought that this was an amazing series and would recommend anyone to watch it.
A young family move to tranquil Park Terrace in Glasgows west end. How lovely. They have purchased a multi million pound property, despite no real evidence of income..mmm.. Yes Yes, we know he is up is an architect and she is a scientist etc but she has no job and he has no commissions...go figure. Anyway a thorn in the side of this lovely wholesome family is the NEIGHBOUR IN THE BASEMENT..This poor guy is so obviously living with poor mental health and his fragility is totally obvious to anyone, except this pair. How this poor man could afford to rent a flat here( which is generally a few thousand a month) is never explained. Anyway things go pair shaped as expected and Martin spends his days angry. Theres some attempt at a back story involving his dad but its just a bit of filler, which sort of sums up this series. Its mainly filler with loads of plot holes. I wont give the ending away but it will not suprise you and by that point you wont really care anyway. I kept watching this waiting for it to improve and it never did. If this was set in a council house in Glasgow nobody would watch it for longer than 10 mins. As previously noted, the house is the star.
