My daughter loves the original so we were looking forward to watching it together. She, and I, were left bemused and disappointed and didn't even finish it. The new songs were pretty poor and you know you're in trouble when a 4 year old isn't enjoying them. I also want to know why Disney can't branch out more for their voice actors? The voice of the pelican is the same as Sisu from Raya and the last Dragon. With a keen eyed, and eared, daughter, who made the connection, just felt like lazy casting. I think if Disney is going to go mining into collective childhoods, they need to make it worthwhile.
Despite stopping CrossFit personally a few years ago, I've watched, and continue to watch, every CrossFit documentary. I think they're fantastic promotional pieces for the sport, and encourage people into the gym and to give it a try. It's become a mini ritual to get a few ex-CrossFitters round and do a watch party.
This said, I completely agree with the other reviews that I've seen. This doco was SO poor from a story-telling perspective. There were ample sub-stories that it just didn't get into at all, and focused only on the final podium placers. One of the stories of the games was the sandbag ladder, and the doco didn't even talk about the 'drama' of when the new top bag was brought out.
Glad to hear that there is a new production company coming in for next year, but if you're considering watching this and you're a CF fan, don't. Save your money.
